Which they were but you don't get that much attacking freedom and a 3rd centre half to cover your arse in a back 4. His positional sense even in the tournament seemed lax.

…but he was playing as a RWB, surely you wouldn’t expect him to play that way as FB. I imagine you’d need to watch him at FB to assess his positional sense in that position, he seems to have played there enough.

He's saying that he does this for a living and that your opinion doesn't count unless you slam some evidence onto the table to back it up.

To be fair, you probably could have phrased that one as: "Are you sure that playing in the Dutch league in a back four means the player can make the jump to the Prem level at that position?" You could have cited some examples, such as Altidore if you really wanted to get his goat. A hit rate comparison across leagues, especially if you have that data for the position, is how you convince a data-driven Yank to take you seriously.

I'll listen to a qualitative argument like your positional sense one that you didn't express to him since I don't watch tons of football games. If I was a professional with a position I felt was well-researched, I probably would have taken what you said to be bait.

Gonna say this clearly .. but the resemblance stops that both like to get forward. Dumfries will not put inch perfect crosses in like Digne but is more like Coleman with a lot of lung bursting runs forward

I mean, I don't believe all Evertonian's should blindly just say "yeh you're right mate" to some online yank scout that most likely hasn't really watched him play and thinks our concerns are baseless.

Well we don't know Benitez's formation yet but all I'm saying is the vast majority on here have only seen him in the Euros where he basically played as a right winger. Would have been nice to see if he could defend as well which he must do in the PL.

A good mate of mine's family are Dutch travels there and takes in a good few games told me he is a very good right back , its always been his position.

I'd just watch him if I was that bothered but he's signing/not signing regardless of my take. 99% of Evertonian's that have seen him have only seen him in the Euros.
