Did anyone travel to see Everton play at Benfica?

Yes, I did. It's massive, we had a great view, (pity about the result). They have an eagle that flies around the stadium about 5 minutes before kick-off and then lands on it's perch.

Yes, the stadium was great (very atmospheric especially the eagle). Went to see Sporting's set-up when I was there and that was quite impressive as well (although looked scuzzier from the outside).

Although I didn't go I have spent time in Lisbon, they are both quite impressive and are close-ish to each other on the ring road around the city. Benfica's is the red one, Sporting's the green one! (y)

Around twelve years ago I think Benfica had the largest ground in Europe in terms of fan capacity, it was even bigger than Barcelona, but they no longer hold that statistic.

Not 100 per cent sure who holds that title now actually.

And why - do Sunderland have a ground of the same name. Never understood that.

What next, Hartlepool renamed as the Bernabeu or something. :dodgy:

Wikipedia may not be the most reliable source Mikel.

no matter what it says, I still insist there is a larger stadia in Europe that can hold more support.

Thanks for the info. I might be visiting a friend in Lisbon on a future trip and I was just curious about Benfica's stadium and what things to do around there. From the pictures, it had looked like a nice stadium.
