Disappearing threads

The Equaliser

Sometimes you haven't the time to look at a thread and decide to leave it until later to read.

Then you go back only to find it has disappeared, vanished, extinct, an ex-thread, as it were. This has occurred at least twice this week already.

Why does this happen instead of it just being locked if it has gotten out of hand?

NEA really but just wondering.

I dumped the clique thread for pretty much option (1) on Brucies list.

Partly because people coming along later were bound to get wound up by what was being said and partly so we could take a look at it and act accordingly, mostly by laughing at the whoppers who posted in it.

Was more that lurkers were actually posting and there was some weird mexican midget vibe going wasn't it?

No mate, towards the end it descended into some pretty poor stuff which reflected badly on the site and particularly on the individuals concerned. Woolly took the conciliatory route of removing the thread whilst I was searching for the keys to the ban hammer cupboard.

By the way, we'd encourage more lurkers to post ;)

To add to that

1. When we've had a chance to look at it, it may well be brought back into the Ale House
2. Lurkers are ace. They're the mostly silent, always sensible majority. I wish they'd post more, but respect their right to lurk, like and vote.

No thread is ever deleted, but we do have a forum where we move some threads to that is not visible unless you're a mod. Threads are usually sent there for one of two reasons.

1) The thread is not going well and has content in it that doesn't reflect well on the site, be that because it contains lots of squabbles or content that is pushing the boundaries considerably.

2) We're not sure about a thread, so put it there for the time being until we get feedback from the rest of the mod team (the Charleston thread had this yesterday for instance). Once the mods have chatted, it's either moved back to where it came or it remains in, what we call, the dump.

I think that pretty much covers it. If we're talking about the clique thread, then I suspect that was very much the former. Oh, and suffice to say, it doesn't happen very often.

Any chance of rescuing the original Mourinho thread even if it means deleting in their entirety the last few pages?

It had been going on for quite a while and there was some decent discussion/links on before it went hugely off topic and the other Mourinho threads don't have anywhere near that sort of history/data.
