That sounds too straight forward, you will only get x Rays if at all, and referred back to your GP for the depression, I would ask for a specialist to speak to at your GP ask him to refer you to someone with 'depression in the youth' so to speak, I wouldn't waste your time on A&E, as you are not really a priority ( triage )

Well re: my back, it's from a football injury or two beards ago - twisted my back basically, now it hurts quite a lot. Deep heat/all those is a (very) short term solution - works for an hour or two, but I can't really apply that every hour.

If anybody suffers from anxiety (and this can easily lead to depression) then there is fabulous medicine available from your GP. A good friend of mine takes a medicine, I've forgotten the name but can find out easily enough, and he says it has brought him back to his good old self. Just a tweaking of the chemical imbalances in the body is all that is needed sometimes.

Ok. Same as me really, you need referral to a orthopaedic dude.

As for the depression, my personal advice is avoid any tablets and pills as you are a bit young ( my opinion here) and try a bit of specialist care with a quack.

I've been around specialists in the last year and the general opinion/advise is to look for medicine at this point... Feeling a bit anxious about that tbf, as does anyone, but I'm sure I have no reason to do so.

Got a doctor's appointment on Monday and I'm hoping they don't up my dosage which they probably will.

On the edge of completely loosing it at the moment all I seem I want to do I sit in my room and ignore everything. In work I've been avoiding doing stuff which I normally do and it's all getting on top of me. Being paranoid about what everyone else thinks of me not doing me any favours.

Yes, you can attend A & E. The service you get there will depend on how severe your depression is.

Don't want to bore the pants off you so, briefly, if you tell the receptionist you are there with severe depression & that there are thoughts of self harm, you'll see the triage nurse who will go through a short series of questions with you. One of the questions will be along the lines of "Have you made plans to hurt yourself or anyone else?".

IF you fill their criteria, you'll then see a liaison psychiatric worker, who may refer you to a psychiatrist or to the local "Crisis Resolution Team" - depends on how your local authority works. Either way, they'll get you on the right therapy a dam sight quicker than your GP.

Frankly, I wouldn't back and depression in the one visit.

New to the forum and just reading through some of the posts in this thread and can empathize (hate that word!) with so many people here.

I've struggled with depression for about 25 years, since I was about 14. Had some truly horrendous experiences, including a cheerful four-week stay in Blackburn hospital, surrounded by some real 'Cuckoos Nest'-type people.

When I was younger I actually think I reveled in the attention a little bit, it gave me an identity and lots of sympathy. However now I don't let it define me, it's just something I have to live with.

Luckily I had some great support from the NHS after my spell in the nuthouse (I've been there so I'm allowed to call it that!), and now I feel better than I have done since I was at school. I was on 40mg Citalopram daily for 6 years but in the last 6 months that has dropped to 20mg. Still have the odd bad day, but can see it for what it is now, just a minor wobble, not a permanent one.

Not too sure what the point of this post is tbh, other than to say to people struggling, I'm proof that things can get better, and there's no such thing as a lost cause.

I would think attending your GP is better if you're feeling depression. I don't know what way A+E's work over there, but over here, no matter what your complaint is, the doctors will often ask you if you're suffering from depression anyway (it's amazing what physical ailments can manifest from the mind). I don't know what age you are, but I agree with Bryan that you should try and avoid medication if you're on the young side. As I say, you should see a GP, particularly if you're familiar with them, as it's less frantic in a doctor's office. They can get a better indication of the initial scale of your depression and he/she can monitor your progress over the course of repeat visits. A+E's can often make you feel slightly unwanted at busy times too, depression is often overlooked due to the high stress nature of the emergency room.
