Do you get depressed after an ale binge?

When I was in my 20s, I could hit the beer or voddy, have a right session, and then I'd be fine the next day (probably a headache or hangover but that would be it.)

These days, if I hit the ale a few nights in a row, I feel depressed all day on a Sunday - even quite tearful and thoughts of doom.

Just me or anyone else get this?

Been like this today. And it's normal for loads as you get older. Not that it happens every time like.

The key is recognising and moderation to prevent it. Happens more often for me man. Is it only a recent thing for you? Spirits make it worse for me so I stick to beer as much as I can.

Middle age hits most of us. Up the two day hangovers. Long time since weekends right on it and work on Monday off not much sleep. Time has come for daytime drinking with kebab and bus home before town gets busy. I make involuntary sounds when I bend down too.

Stop drinking 3 years ago because of this, and them noises are sad aren't they.

Dont have binges any more, not like when I was a lad. Dont drink spirits, other than a G&T at Christmas, but have a few ales and a glass of wine or two pretty much every day.

Look forward to work 99 days out of 100, (like when it snows basically).

Get more depressed by buying a house with a massive garden/meadow/orchard and having to constantly cut/mow/kill stuff.

Cant wait till I retire properly and can spend all day doing that.

But isnt alcohol a depressant anyrate? Not that Ive noticed, but Radio 5 said it was.

You've got a great big orchard!?

I hope they put a railway raaaar through it.

Anyway in response to Op I'm depressed before I drink, depressed because I drink and depressed after I drink.

Life eh, it gets in the way, doesn't it?

It's been happening on and off for about 2 years. If I stick to just 2 or 3 pints, once a week, I am fine.

But I've been drinking nearly every evening last two weeks, not getting off my face, but a good few ales and today it's caught up on me.

Woke up this morning at 4am having a panic attack and feeling like death warmed up.

Missus said I have been super quiet all day. I just laid on sofa watching rubbish on tv with depressing, paranoid "what if" thoughts.

It's the booze for sure and I am gonna give it a miss for a while, let my body and mind heal.

@roydo You're correct mate alcohol is indeed a depressant.

Two weeks on it is some going. Different days as you get older I reckon, just got to work out your own body and adjust. That you recognise what is causing it is half the battle.

The waking in the night sense of panic is your body releasing cortisol I think. Happens to me when I've been heavy on it. Look up breathing exercises, that works for me man.

These threads always scare me a bit.

Alcohol has been a constant in my family's live, like, forever. Never, ever, been an issue.

Maybe the entire Roydo clan is a gang of functioning alcoholics.
