Do you think the bigger clubs benefit from no replays?

Just looking at Tamworth they were so close to taking spurs to a replay
And the money would have had from the gate at spurs would have set them up
For the next few years financial to me that is what the FA Cup is all about
and?
Teams in Europe play too many games. Players get fatigued and injured.
Would it be fairer if all games were played at the larger of the two stadiums? People would only whine about it not being all about the money, and the smaller club losing home advantage.

I just listened to the totally football podcast and that decision to have no replay has cost 800k at least, about 3 years budget. When you have managers like klopp and guardiola on 6 figure monthly salaries constantly campaigning for more advantages for the big teams it really leaves a bitter taste for me.

Yes they do and the lower league teams lose out significantly as does the integrity of the cup. The big clubs getting their way again. FA and PL appeasing the ones that were trying to break away to the super league once again. The FA undermining their own competition bending over to please the tiny minority.
Pitty all Clubs from Championship level down didn't vote on to boycott the competition this year and force the FAs hand on this. Most teams outside the PL probably play more games in a season than their PL counterparts.

Very obviously and the Spurs game is all the evidence you need to know. 0-0 going into extra time, Tamworth could have nicked it before the final whistle. Extra time starts and on comes about £100m on talent in Son and Kulusevski, with Solanke brought on 3/4 of the way through the game when he obviously wasn't planned to have been used.

What happened? Spurs are three up in 25 minutes and Tamworth are out. This is exactly why replays should be played - Spurs have a huge squad and can cope with additional games, it's just an excuse to protect the bigger teams.

Another example Liverpool, look at their squad players like Nunez, Gakpo, Bradley, Kelleher, Tsimikas, Elliott - I'm sure these players could all play an additional few games per season alongside a handful of u23s.

Everything is set up to protect the moneymaking clubs, look how United were quite literally assisted by the Premier League to get around the very rules they tried to relegate us for.

Replays should be reinstated, but I've no faith they will be. Probably some rule will come in soon where a select handful of clubs, probably Liverpool, United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal, all get a bye directly to the fifth round on account of 'historical success' in the competition.

Of course, these are also the clubs with the biggest and strongest squads too. Effectively they could replace their whole first team and still have more than enough to get through.

Fixture congestion caused by allowing too many teams into the Champions League and the bloated nature of these European tournaments are squeezing the life out of the domestic ones. Getting rid of the multiple replays was sensible, it should just be two games and then penalties and that should be easy enough to fit in. If clubs don't want a replay then they should go all out for the win that night and if they lose because they left too much space the other end, so be it.

I know what I would rather watch given the choice of a knockout domestic cup game, or a meaningless European league type format game.

Haha, it nauseates me the way they bitch about fixture congestion and player burn out, then aggressively fill every single programmed break with a meaningless overseas tournament to maximise revenue.

The game is lost, life is much easier if we just accept the fact and take what little enjoyment we can from it while we watch it swirl around the toilet bowl before it vanishes down the drain completely.

This.

It's why the Premier League was formed and is symptomatic of the modern world. When I was growing up Trade Unions were strong and collective bargaining stopped unscrupulous employers from taking advantage of workers. The football league distributed money throughout the divisions ensuring 92 clubs got their fair share and with good management you could work your way up through the divisions. Then Rupert Murdoch came along and greedy clubs like us broke away and everything that has happened since, whether in football or life in general (life in general changed first in the eighties).is designed to help individuals and not the collective.

I`ve always found it funny when all the top managers would go off on a rant over how many games they were being expected to play, especially as they get to the business end of the season, but put up no argument when CL is extended. I have no sympathy with teams being told that are qualified for the club world cup being told they must field strong teams in the competition by FIFA. Maybe if they scrapped extra time we might get back to having a real upset, so when a team like Tamworth get a 0-0 draw after 90mins they would have a better chance of getting through on penos.

No chance - none of them actually want Tamworth or equivalent actually going through and penos would help that.. they just want to bang about the magic of the cup for 4 months of the year..

the end of the day the FA want 6 PL teams , 1 championship team and 1 lower level team in the quarter finals.. The lower level team only getting to that stage cause knocking out other lower level teams - not knocking out a top 6 team (perish the thought)

It amuses me that the people who complain about too many fixtures are the people from clubs that win things... easy fix for them, get knocked out of cups early and finish mid table, the problem sorts itself out. You don't see Everton with fixture congestion issues, we are just ahead of the game..
