Does our position flatter us?

I’m sorry about us lad. If you leave and take Sassy with you I’ll understand. I was waiting for this day. @Prevenger17 warned you. But nothing can prepare you for how dark it can get in here.

Adios heaven.

Hola hell.

Lol nah. It just shows passion. Us newbies are just new, you lads have been supporting the team for so long and I understand that there has been so many let downs that some fans are scarred for life..once things go bad, the negativity sets in. I just wish there was a little perspective
This is not the same everton. It might take a while but progress is being made and results are paying off.

This GOT forum is still the best I have been to and the fans are the most passionate I've seen. Really awesome community you have here.

Pretty big call then to have been a "fan" since September 2020 then laying into the supporters after one defeat

A few lucky wins and you really think we could get top 4. Really. If you look at the wins it was mostly luck. A few good saves by Pickford against Tottenham, a braindead Brighton team (much better then us on the day) a braindead red card (West Brom) and Var (against Liverpool) that got us the 13 points. Southampton was the real Everton I'm afraid.
What a load of jarg that is. We won 7 games on the spin before the derby. We won all of those through luck? Behave yourself ffs. As well as scoring goals for fun we’d hit the woodwork god knows how many times during that run. We won those games as we were better than the opposition on the day, simple as.

We lost yesterday as we weren’t, as Soton won nearly every second ball and without Richarlison we didn’t have anything like the same penetration and threat down the left.

Literally every post you’ve made on here has been negative. Funny that.

How am I laying into supporters? I said I understand the behavior.

Am I not allowed to say anything because I'm new?

You can say what you like, but

What a sad way to live. When you lose, yeah I knew we suck. I told you!

Not quite sure why you can't understand why fans might not be too chirpy after yesterday's result and performance.

We have a great attacking team that didn't attack on Sunday. WE really missed Richy and a fit James. For all the maligning of Gomes he fits in Better than Siggy who pushes the midfield too far forward of the back four, Allan was stranded. Its not the end of the world! WE will bounce back! this team has too much quality not to.

Because being frustrated with a loss in one thing. Taking it as far as finding spots on every game to justify luck in every game we've gotten results seems excessive to me.

You can find spots on every game for either team that could have swung the outcome of the game...for any team in any sport.

I understand the history of frustration and the flashbacks to darker times, especially since a lot of the players are still here. I understand being frustrated after a bad game like yesterday, it was truly a horror movie on the field.

But what is the point of watching or following anything if when you win, you will chalk it up to luck but when you lose then it's confirmation that the team is in disarray. So no matter what the team does win, lose, or draw, the attitude remains the same.

I find that to be a poor way to support a team. I'm sorry but that's just my opinion. Doesn't mean the fans are bad fans or I'm better. Just think it's a sad way to follow a team. Didn't mean to put the fans down. I apologize for that.

Maybe we caught Spurs at a good time, but we still played them off their park.

I disagree with your take on the other results. Think we deserved to hammer West Brom - they were lucky to be level at 2-2 with two pot shots - and deserved to hammer Brighton with a team lacking some of our bigger players. Take some silly individual errors (I'm looking at you JP) out of the equation for both games and we win those to nil. Deserved to beat Palace on balance of play. They will make every game seem tight but we played the better footy and were mature in how we managed the game. Balance of the 90, for all four opening games, we were the better team.

Yes we were lucky in some respects in the Derby, but on another day Richy scores that header and the rat gets a straight red for that cynical scythe on Allan. Draw probably just about fair result again. Hell of a game, the derby, and most neutrals who watched the full 90 wouldn't begrudge us a point

We were always going to have a dip in form, but Soton are a good side out of possession and surprise surprise it came with the inclusion in the starting line up of two of our more nervous/lightweight players who brick themselves at the call of 'man-on'. Newcastle will be a good side for us to visit next - we have a decent record going up there (won 6 and drawn 1 from our last ten visits).

Does the league flatter us? Perhaps - but would it flatter any team who was first right now? Probably. Spurs are the only team I've seen play who are putting in a consistent level of performance that merits being up there.

No need for proclamations at this early stage, just need to enjoy (if possible) the ride. All that being said I am nervous about how we react against Newcastle, lacking essentially an entire left hand side of the pitch.

We have here Tofee, we have.

Well we've earned the right to be where we are currently.. but looking a bit more 'big picture' it's difficult to properly answer that question.

We're currently top on merit, for sure, but as for it 'flattering' us? over the course of a full season's worth of games it probably would yeah.. but that's not the point.

Superb post.

Welcome to the psyche of an Evertonian mate lol

I know this is very very early and a flawed metric in plenty of ways, but it suggests we are where we are on merit.
