hes got no real strikers instinct for me, Tosun has that thing where hell score more of the chances you throw at him then not.

id let DCL have a loan in the championship personally, bit of roughhousing and ideally scoring goals would do him good

..I agree Tosun is the more natural poacher, but I guarantee every CB in this league would prefer facing him than DCL. He might not be as good a finisher as Tosun but he’ll score goals Tosun isn’t capable of because of his pace and power.

I don’t get this Championship opinion, if he was available there’d be many a top flight club after him.

DCL wouldn’t have been able to take the ball in his stride like Tosun did against palace. There’s a massive gulf in technique between the 2

I really don't get this 'loan him to the Championship' stuff

It's a step down. I appreciate the Championship has some good teams but it is still a step down. We would - and DCL would - learn nothing from a loan to the Championship, only than perhaps stalling his progression (see Galloway, Garbutt).

It's not like he's a player with a handful of appearances. He's a player who has established himself as a decent squad player in a PL side. He was chucked in at the deep end last year and, more often than not, swam rather than sank in a side with no system of playing.

At the moment, he clearly has a defined role in our squad. It's a squad game and if we need a player who can either

a) come on and help us switch systems to a 4-4-2 if we need a goal as on Sunday

or

b) come on for the last few minutes to help hold the ball up and see out a result

or

c) start the odd game where we need a player who can stretch a defence

then he's a very useful asset to us, because he can do all of those things.

I don't think he's brilliant, or got bags of natural God-given talent.

But he works exceptionally hard in whatever position he plays in (I know, a prerequisite) and is now finally working under a manager who seems to have told him his role and now it's up to him to continue to improve for that role.

who would take him? Palace maybe could do with him but cant think of many hed improve

Technically, I'd say Tosun is by far the better player. Finishing, link up play etc.

But DCL's control has always been pretty good. Even when we still had Rom, DCL came in and actually showed what a striker should do in terms of his hold up.

We're now starting to see with DCL a player that knows his strengths and, importantly, a manager who knows how to use those strengths.

It helps we've got four wide players, so barring having to bring DCL on late on just to give us an option to hit up top if needs be, he can be used exclusively as a striker.

In a 4-4-2, I think he's an excellent option. He's a player that wins so many flick ons and headers, but that's pointless if the rest of the players are 20 yards deeper. We played a 4-4-2 for the last 15 minutes against Palace and he was excellent and got his goal.

We can't and shouldn't start every game 4-4-2, but DCL gives us the option to go to it if needs be.

..i’m not denying Tosun has better predatory qualities. I don’t think the gulf in quality is so great, but I do think DCL fits the Silva system better. Ultimately, it’s a position that needs strengthening but going forward I think we’ll be much better served by DCL than Tosun. Sending him out on loan would leave the squad weaker and I can’t see why anybody would want to do that.

He'd get in pretty much every matchday squad outside of the top six.

People need to get out of this 'first XI' mentality. It's not about that.

Look at City, or God forbid even the RS.

When Sane doesn't start for City, there's not this thing of 'he's being dropped'.

No, it's merely down to how you use certain players for certain games.

This is the attitude/mentality we as fans now have to have. We make SUCH a big deal of players being in and out of an 11 and as soon as a player is out for one or two games (Tosun) the shouts of 'SELL' start straight away, or in this case 'LOAN'.

We have to get away from that and realise that to do well in the Premier League you need a squad.

..I have absolutely no doubt there’d be plenty of interest.

Every team outside of the top six would happily have him in their squads, Eggs.

Heck, he'd be the perfect striker to go in and start for Newcastle right now, for example.

I'm with you on this.

I don't think he's the best thing since sliced bread, or the new Harry Kane.

But he's already a decent-level Premier League forward. He's a nuisance for teams to play against. Think how many fouls he wins in key areas, or how many times he manages just to get to the ball first.

If he's playing as an isolated striker then he doesn't have the skillset to cope. But he's showing now that he's more than a good enough option for when we're on top in games and need a goal, or if we want to go two up top, or - if needs be - we need a player to come on for the last 5 minutes and help see out a lead.

That's a very useful player in my book.

whats the point in him going to someone elses bench? if wed be loaning him out youd want him to start surely

...from all accounts, Arsenal Wenger was enquiring when he was at Arsenal. Liverpool invested in Solanke who isn’t at the same level. It’s not only what he’s like now, there’s absolutely no doubt this fella will continue to get better.

I don't want him loaned out at all.

My point was he'd be good enough to get in every squad outside of the top six, and he'd easily start for a fair few of them.
