Some of our fans need to swerve it with the overused “just isn’t good enough” shouts with this lad.

There are plenty within this squad who are far from good enough, but this lad isn’t one of them.
Only just 22 and improving by the game. Put in a great shift today, worked hard, some great link up play as well.

Needs to be more consistent in front of goal for sure, but he’s got the spot at least for the next 7 games so let’s see.

Is he the answer up front long term? Probably not, but if he keeps improving he definitely has a place in the squad.

I’ve said before that I think our fanbase sometimes has an unrealistic expectation of some of our young players. They don’t all hit the first team a near complete player like Rooney did.
They take time to develop and will have poor patches and make mistakes. We need to have more patience with them as a fanbase.

There’s plenty of chancers and bottle jobs amongst the senior team who are more deserving of the ‘fans wrath’
The young players on the whole should be given way more leeway than some give them.

/soap box ;)
Good enough for what though? Do you think he is a shoe in for this current team? Possibly. Would he be a starter if we are looking to improve? No way. Hes not a bad player but he isn’t good enough for us to improve, and there’s nothing wrong in stating that as an opinion.

You have got to be honest and realistic. The lad is improving and he could become an excellent player but you have to be honest with yourself and if he is the player we want leading our line next season. If you say you do then be prepared for another long season of missed chances lack of chances then get suckered on the counter. We are in dire need of a forward that can score given the chance and create something out of nothing. DCL might turn into a player like that but he isn't close at the moment. He can graft he can disrupt but he has to add the guile and composure to that. Hoping it happens for him but next season we can't just rely on his graft and disruption and hope to make a dent in the top 6. Most people on here are recognising that he might be a star of the future but we are talking about present day and I am sorry but my opinion is he is not ready and yes not good enough (yet). We keep him and hope he continues his progression as he really needs to progress. We have no choice for the rest of the season but we certainly have a choice next season or the management are being negligent.
That’s a fair comment and close to what I was saying in my original post (but maybe I am a bit more optimistic on him :p )

I was aiming my comments more towards a certain subset of our fans who seem to enjoy taking it out on the player and seem to be more interested in saying “I told you so” than seeing our players develop (see the “Holgate/Vlasic has found his level” lot)

At the end of the day there is not one person/ fan who can predict this guys development.

It’s a case of wait and see. He IS improving, and of late at quite a decent rate.

What age was Kane before he started bagging consistently?

I’m not saying he’s our Kane, but you have to be patient. He’s 21/22 years old!

Just think how satisfying it might be if he does develop into a top CF. The only way we’ll see if that’s possible is by keep playing him

I said in my post he looks to be developing into a decent squad player.
Not every player in the squad is going to be potential game changer, but rather fulfill a wider role.

You’re right, if this squad wasn’t a complete mess, he wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter, but it is so he is. And that’s good for him as it’s allowing him to develop and showing what he can do if given an opportunity.

Once again, will he be good enough to be our #9 long term? I don’t think so, but how much would we pay for a backup striker of his potential? If he continues to improve at this rate he is good enough to fulfil that role.

I like the boy. He's scoring a few more. He's becoming more consistent. He's definitely improving. That's all you can really ask at this point.

Whether he reaches the top levels we really could do with is another question. Very debateable, but who knows.

His target needs to be replicating that second half performance for the rest of the season. Provide an option in the channels, drop a little deeper at times to be involved in the build up, hold the ball up for a few seconds and lay it off to a supporting attacker, challenge in the air for the ball.

Replicate that and he's got a decent all round game.

He's only 2 goals away from double figures as well.

He was only bought for 1.5 million, He could easily go for 10+ million in today's market, If he comes good we win if we sell him we win ;)

He's a nice lad and all that, but Lordy, what a terrible player. He just runs aimlessly across the last third. I can never remember him coming short to offer a ball to feet or playing off the shoulder of the last defender.

If we had a striker with more intelligent movement (and a GK who wasn't a complete clown for 3 out of every 4 games) we'd be in business.

TBH mate if Bournemouth spent 19 mill on a lad who's only had a handful of games I would want at least that for DCL probably more .Hes definitely getting better and seems to be putting himself about a bit more which is good to see . Me personally I wouldn't sell him and if he carries on like this I have to hold my hands and say I was wrong about the lad he played really well today well in Dom

He was doing this today.
