Was thinking, getting a new striker can only help DCL. There is so much focus on the kid and dependency on him scoring that he must be feeling the pressure. Strikers are one area that there is always game time for the bench warmers. Can't think of one other top 10 side that has our dearth of talent or options.

Big season for Dom. he needs support though or he needs to be support, not great that we haven't secured a forward yet. People moan at DCL not scoring loads so he doesn't need the extra pressure of being our only CF worthy of a start.

I reckon he will get double figures this year, that's an acceptable improvement and return for me.

I said we will never finish where we want playing a striker that doesn’t score and you are Very selective with your examples. You have literally just pointed out that every team above us has one Chelsea aside, salah and mane but didn’t win the league but ignor the fact they won the CL? Also ignoring city have aguero... Kane scores but spurs won nothing again ignoring the fact they were CL finalists and that Kane was injured for a big spell at the end of the season , again ingnoring the fact that Aubameyang and arsenal were Europa league finalists. Liverpool didn’t win the league purely because of one of the greatest teams engkish football has ever seen, their points tally would have won the league in any other year since English football began. We didn’t win the league with lineker but got to cup finals and finished 2nd and were beaten by the RS who had who upfront? We aren’t 3rd as we are and just behind the league leaders , we are 8th with a massive gap to 6th and an even bigger gap to the top.

I agree that he needs some support from another striker, someone who he can challenge and be challenged by

I also strongly believe that he's going to have a good season for us. He's working his arse off to be in the best shape he can be. All he needs now is to put a few away early doors and we'll be off to the races. Once he gets that taste for goal he's going to really kick on. I truly think this could be a break out season for him

We need to get behind him now and support him

All this is great but getting a striker who "scores goals" is still not an instant fix for us. It takes much more than that. All the players you mention also have great teams around them.

Its a hell of a start though

Is it? We had a great goalscorer only a couple of seasons ago, we were still in pretty much the same position we are now, we had one with Yakubu and with Andy Johnson, we had one with Tony Cottee, we were still not great.

We don't need one guy to score goals, we spread them around the team, the main thing we need is to be more clinical around the box, that's not just on the central striker but the rest of the team to put the right ball in at the right time or to make the correct decisions. Without that it doesn't matter who you play up front.

Yes it is. Didn't say it was the golden bullet, and of course goals need to go around the team, but having a player whose job description is scoring goals who can actually do just that is imperative. Imagine Richarlison, Bernard and Siggy had Lukaku in front of them... we not replacing the team with a striker.. we're trying to augment the team with a vastly better one. I don't get how this is even a debate. Without Lukaku we were a bottom half club at best.

We were a bottom half team with him! Doesn't really matter anyway as its a different team now. Lukaku doesn't look the same player either. I reckon he can still score goals but he seems to have lost the ability to make goals for himself.

A strikers job description is not just to score goals. Anyone can score the goals, you don't get more points for having the striker score them.

I just think that the people saying we desperately need a striker are kind of missing the point, we don't create enough chances for our strikers and our decision making in the final third can be woeful.

Again I am not saying don't buy one, just don't expect it to fix whatever problems we have.
