He has done nothing to suggest that he could play there?

No one should make the team based sorely on their work rate and at the minute I’m not seeing what DCL offers bar a physical presence who can run really quickly.

I like DCL and believe he offers more than work rate but the pressure of being main striker is too much. My original thought is that he should be used from the bench against tiring teams but I also think at the minute that is where Kean is best suited. We needed a proven striker and these 2 as back up with the option of going with 2 up top late in games. Unfortunately neither Tosun or Niasse are good enough to be the main striker so we are where we are. Until Kean adapts more to the the league DCL will start I was just suggesting by perhaps playing DCL deeper some of the physical pressure would be removed from Kean as he wouldn't be combating 2 centre backs alone.

Anyone who thought he wasnt going to start against Palace is deluded.

You dont throw in a kid who's been at the club for a couple of weeks who needs to be acclimated into a new league and a new way of playing straight away.

In time he'll most likely overthrow DCL but Kean was never gonna start and probably wont next week.

No but that's all true, however this is the DCL thread, so we just assess him as we see him.

Kean will play next week no doubt about it.

he's the problem because he can't hit a barn door.
Except that's not what the stats say. Expected goals last season 4, actual goals 6. The season before expected goals 5, actual goals 4. The problem is our midfield we are just not creating that many chances, it needed ripping up in the summer and rebuilding. It didn't and that is the problem. Kean will have the same problems as DCL, unless we sort out the midfield.

Of course. Which is why, in my opinion we needed to sign an experienced striker as well. As much as I loathe him, the shouts of Diego Costa got me excited.

Kean has no one at the club to learn from, he, as a 19 year old, is the best striker here. I can't think of another premier league club with weaker competition and depth in a CF position. Certainly not one supposedly trying to break into the top 6.

I accept however that past transfer failures in this position, who are still here as of now, may have hampered our ability to sign an experienced striker. Once Tosun, Niasse and (quite possibly, if he doesn't show improvements this season) DCL are gone, maybe we will have the financial wiggle room to recruit a higher calibre of forward.

I want DCL to do well but people defending him with he holds the ball up well, or puts pressure on the defenders etc it isn’t his main task, as a striker he needs to score goals.
It’s like saying a keepers good at goal kicks and throw outs but can’t stop a shot.
Not sure what’s best, but he needs goals from somewhere, hopefully the coaching team can help with that

It's hard to create chances when you have a striker that's not got an ounce of strikers nous or positioning about him, aways flat footed and wrong side of his man, drops in too often aswell instead of being on the shoulder.

I suspect there'll be a sizeable difference in chances created when we see kean get into the swing of things

Maybe the midfield could find him better if he actually had any movement to his game, he stands there waiting for the ball to come to him, he has to give other players options, like making a run to the near/far post, he literally just stands there next to whoever is marking him.

It's the equivalent of being a VAR pub bore, being edgy defending crap players. Davies last season and DCL again. We had this with Klaasen too.

DCL has shown he can be a useful player and is still very young.

Davies has shown nothing to get any praise unfortunately.

Between Feb and the end of the season do you not think DCL was actually pretty good?

What the hell are expected goals? I expect the striker to scorer everytime, ashot on target rate of 33% and failure to anticipate inside the box is the problem as much as midfield creativity, how can you create for some one who waits for the ball to arrive inch perfect

Best in the air since Cahill.

What the absolute F is that about. Fellaini has just cushioned that comment on his velcro chest and volleyed it back onto your pen hand. And that's before we get onto the likes of Mina

Davies has flatlined? From what, the game against City? He's the Bob Geldof of football players, dining out on some distant past weekend. "He's playing further forward" - yer, because we've tried him everywhere else and he's been guff.

DCL is riiiiiight there in the mix with Angell, Cadamatri, Jo and the rest in terms of being hopeless. He's not even as good as Beckford, for shame.
Bob Geldoff has more talent in his little finger than you will ever possess. You flatlined right there.
Tell me why I dont like orly

Even if he had Barcelona's midfield behind him he still wouldn't score. He is getting opportunities with our midfield though anyway and had plenty of chances to score in the pre-season and missed them all including sitters. A striker who cannot score is just as pointless as a goal keeper who cannot save or a defender who cannot defend.

I dont dislike the lad in any shape or form, in fact i like him and love his passion. Just should not be in the first team as our striker until he learns how to be a striker and score goals.
