That's funny the other night Tim Cahill reckons DCL has the potential to become an England no 9........
Which, tbh, is a bit of a doddle compared to being say Citys No 9.
I'd be happy If he stays our No 9 and the pundits start with the - he needs to move to a big club.
Then the fun will begin.

Edit; if he was with a sky darling hed have half a dozen caps by now

Not sure how vocal he is on the pitch, but I see him as a potential future captain just as much as I do Holgate. Sets a great example with his work ethic and high standards of himself, and I always enjoy listening to his interviews, always talks a lot of sense.

He's improved. Hes now proving himself to be a decent premier league striker. There's potential to get better. That's it. He is by no means the finished article and is not yet an International class striker. He's had a good season. Lets just see what happens. He'll either never improve from his level now and we'll have to probably replace him to get to CL level, or he continues to get better and he saves us a lot of money.
DCL is a classic case of a load of fans hyping up players to be something they're not. And the other half of fans go over the top slating him to try and bring the over excited fans back down to earth. The answer is usually somewhere in the middle.

...Andy Gray or Adrien Heath weren’t particularly prolific but played alongside Sharp in title winning teams (Lineker was prolific in the season we just missed out).

I think DCL/Richarlison are fine, I can see that combination being successful but its all dependent on getting real quality in wide positions. The wide players have to contribute goals and assists. We are a long way short of that.
Be nice if a midfielder would chip in once and a while too. We’ve no threat coming from that area.

Can't understand the stick he still gets in some quarters.

He works hard, he's improved every season

Is he a top drawer player yet? No. But he has every chance 15+ every season from now on.

(Graeme Sharp only got 15+ in 4 of his 11 seasons at Everton.)

I’m happy for both him and Holgate to be kept as far away from the England set up as possible

The media will either try to sell them or will scapegoat them

There’s extra pressure on him to put the chances away as there’s very little threat coming from anyone behind him. His main job is to score, which is why when he misses easy chances he gets grief.

He’s got a good attitude and a great work rate so he’ll probably work on it in training.
