He should have squared to siggy when it was pretty obvious he was going to fluff that strike with his left foot. He's still a nuisance and can score goals, but he needs to work on his composure and ball striking. He does scuff a lot of shots, as someone else has mentioned.

Only 3 games out of last 12 we have scored more than 1 goal.

So basically unless we keep a clean sheet in three quarters of games on average we will either draw/lose.

You aint qualifying for europe with those statistics - its damning and shows we are desperate for another CF.

Him/Kean/Tosun are not clinical enough.

It just hasn't clicked for DCL since the restart; these things happen. This season has been fairly surreal in many ways and it will be good to see the end of it. I'm fairly confident he'll do well for us next season.

harsh that. He kicked the ball forward aiming for the far post and the defender still got a foot to it and deflected it. In that position trying to pass through the defender would have likely resulted in a wasted chance as the defender would inevitably have got it. Then everyone including the manager is on his back for not shooting. He did theright thing imo, you can argue he didnt get a great connection but the defender did well

Strikers have barren spells. 23 year old ones certainly do. His general hold up play is still solid and he's making good runs -- like you said, it's just not coming off. Not worried at all about Dom.
That’s certainly true. Though the big question and concern with Dom is that he’s only ever had one non-barren spell. And even when he was scoring, he had some tremendous luck like where De Gea just rocketed it off him and it wound up in the net. He’s been an asset. But the questions around his ability are completely justified imo.

tremendous luck? People tend to get that when they work hard and close people down quickly all the time.

could argue the other way and say his winner against Utd was wrongly disallowed due to gylfi lying down watching the game.

Surely he's made that luck, though, through 3+ years of chasing lost causes?

Second bit in bold is completely fair, but I don't think the people defending him in this thread think he's anything he's not. He needs to improve multiple facets of his game, but he's more than doubled his best ever goals tally in a season this campaign and has an attitude that could, and hopefully will, lead to those further improvements.

Meanwhile, those questioning his ability don't appear to be just doing that and are practically writing a player off who has improved year on year and is our joint top scorer. And a minority of them seem like they enjoy one of our first choice strikers missing chances so they can come on here and tell some strangers on the internet 'I told you so'.

That ball could’ve gone anywhere. It happened to go in. Half second timing either way and it’s likely going elsewhere. Not discrediting his work ethic but it’s hardly a “finish” is it? So yeah, there’s some luck to that.

Of course he’s made it happen and got his reward. But those types of goals are freakish and certainly can’t be counted on consistently.
