2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Yeah but saying he didn’t turn up against the top 6 is incorrect as he scored a fair few goals against all of them apart from United
He never really went on at United in the same form as he produced for us - he was a totally different style of no 9 than DCL anyway that's my point he was never a target man.......back to goal merchant his strengh was his power to get the ball over the top and finish easily -

This is a myth lukaku scores numerous goals against rs, city, Spurs, arsenal and chelsea for us

Can't remember the exact stat, but since the 2014/15 season, he scored 5 goals against the top 6 and took that record out of the Premier League with him. Utter myth of a player. Can pound small teams but didn't want to know when we were in a proper game and hid behind centre halves flailing his arms

I just thought DCL was doing the 'unseen' work in the 1st half. Moving defenders around and finding space etc.

But looked like 2nd half he just realised we had them and turned it on a bit more. Even ignoring the goal i thought he seemed to step up a gear 2nd half.

Possibly. Although Richarlison was the same. Bar the run when he should have scored, he wasn't on the ball anywhere near as much first half as he was second. It's natural that with 3 new players all starting the team would take time to adjust. I thought Allan looked off the pace first half, but bossed it second. I think that's generally what happened, Everton were happy to move the ball first half but had no real way to penetrate going forward, as they didn't want to commit too many forward. Second half was a different story, as they'd settled in. Perhaps Ali going off freed up Allan more and gave Everton less to worry about defensively.

He scored 9 in 44 in the league against 'top 6'. Which is about 1 goal every 5 games.

He averaged about 1 goal in just over 2 games across his time with us in the league.

He considerably underperformed against the top 6

When thinking about DCL goalscoring I though it would be useful to remind ourselves of previous seasons - with thanks to ToffeeWeb (see below). Personally, I think he'll get more than last season and close to 20:

He got better as the game got on and as the team started to get more confident getting it a bit quicker up the pitch, looked a little isolated at times in the first half. Also his hold up play seems to still be improving and he’ll still get better at it as he matures... lots more to come!

Absolutely loved seeing a bullet header like that smash into the back of the net passed stranded keeper... a thing of beauty

Demolishing the Spurs centre halves in the process. Like you say, beautiful.
