2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He didn't seem like the same player after his injury just before Christmas. He came back into a side that doesn't create many chances because of the changes made to tighten us up at the back.

He seemed to get better as the match went on against West Ham. It started with him winning everything in the air.

Towards the end his passing vision and execution matched what we were beginning to see at the start of the season. Great finish for the goal as well.

I'm hoping he can get to the 20 League goals scored by the end of the season. He's already reached that target in all competitions.

Another fruitful performance tonight please.

I think he was laboring a bit even before Christmas, and was rushed back a bit (twice) because we simply couldn't function without him. He finally seems to be back to full fitness and ready to do some damage.

Calling a player out is generally a fine line, when we are talking about abuse. Calling somebody out for 0laying poorly is not abuse. Somebody used the non public work environment as an example. I would accept my boss telling me I was not doing a good job but if they went about it as per the below comment you could easily go after them for abuse.

I read one before that said 'Wish we could harvest him for spare parts.'

That for me is extremely unconstructive and pretty childish. Some may see it is a level of abuse and I personally would not argue. I believe sometimes abuse does get called wrongly but the above example and a few others are on that line of low level abusive remarks.

Anyway, go smack in a hat-trick tonight Mr Calvert-Lewin.

I pull up toxic people for their abuse and toxicity. I’ve never had a go at someone for being overly positive.

You always roll out the classic line of “he earns loads of money he should be able to cope with it etc” to justify your bile. Clearly having vast sums of money helps facilitate a happier life, but since when does being a millionaire make you immune to criticism and suffering from mental health issues?

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility for a young player to read abusive posts. That is very clear due to the ongoing issue of fans abusing footballers. You’re only slightly better than them, as you post your abuse on a forum instead of their DMs on Twitter. If anything it’s more cowardly.

You’re part of the problem.

I dont know about who exactly has been abusive and toxic with their statements, but in general I agree, that however rich or privileged a player is or a public personality, they don't deserve comments relating to their personality or appearance, race or background. I don't know how to work this out, but criticism of players is normal and acceptable, but how do we draw that line? I'm sure players read comments online - it's clear from social media. They can't just stay offline because we expect them to post photos and to tell us how much they love the fans and the club, or else we give them a hard time for that! I just think that as Everton fans, we can support all our players regardless of their quality, but learn to be clever and respectful with criticism. Niasse and Hibbo are good recent examples - they were not great players, but we eventually supported them in quite a fun way.

You don’t get it.

I’m not going to waste my time.

I do get it perfectly mate - if you have an issue with people calling out players for either being consistently not good enough or even worse putting in half arsed efforts and strolling around like Schneiderlin and Siggurdsson in recent seasons then thats fair enough but thats your issue. We all love this club and if a player who's in a privileged position is not doing a job then they for me fans have every right to call them out within reason - I hated Gerrard as a player and would call him a snide at GP etc but would never get involved with people singing about Pancake/the babies not yours as thats personal and out of line - if you cant see the difference then I dont know what to tell you.

Same way you read people slate Johnson or Cummings or Corbyn over politics.

There is a line between personal abuse and calling someone crap.

A good example funnily enough is people wading into Gwladys Blue on here over his recent antics despite him posting in the depression thread that he's going through a tough time - why wasn't you calling out the lads laying into him? How do you know what those comments might be doing to him behind the monitor?

As I said earlier there are alot of hypocritical comments and even if you dont agree with me - giving me abuse doesn't exactly make you any better does it?

Wow.

Just wow, bringing the depression thread into it cos you have been called out for being a bellend.

Keep going, your nearly at the bottom.

I just find it funny the same people worried about DCL's wellbeing weren't bothered when they were laying into a lad who had recently posted he was going through a tough time.

Strange that.
Not really strange, I dont read the depression thread a lot.

Ive seen that people who post in there get a lot of help from people, but don't see why you would "bring" peoples troubles from there into here.

Just seems rather disgusting to me.

But hey ho, when you're lower than a snakes belly, anything goes.

He's progressing nicely year on year , but he's not yet the finished article.
Not many are at 24 @ForeverBlue92

Never said he was mate he's been one of our best players this season Im glad he's improved and proved me wrong never said anything different.

I just find it hypocritical and rather amusing when the same folk moaning at me for criticising DCL 2 years ago call the likes of Pickford, Iwobi and Siggurdsson every name under the sun, they call Moise Kean over rated, rubbish etc despite DCL back 2 years ago wasnt any better than Kean was last season and Kean is even younger!

Some like to portray a man of the cloth act but ultimately if they look in the mirror they aint as perfect as they like to portray they are.
