Apart from this thread I've seen zero interest in DCL's modelling. Zero. Admittedly I don't do Twitter, so there may be some interest there, but I can't help but think this is being overblown.

Remember when Heitinga said he'd ride a bike to Barcelona (or some such guff)? Yeah, loads went berserk too.
