Oh dear oh dear. I imagine we'll go all in for Broja now, but Chelsea may well not let him go until the end of the window. We're in for a very difficult start to the season, no doubt about it.
they certainly won't let him leave in time for Sunday. We can't afford to waste time on Broja if Chelsea are just going to say no.
It's crazy that we are in this situation

It's a tricky one. If DCL is indeed out for three months, we now need a starting striker, not someone who's just an adequate understudy. Then we arguably need someone as backup for that player, because Rondon is no good.

I hope it's Broja but I can see Chelsea wanting any deal to include Batshuayi just to get him off their books.
Assuming Gana is as good as done
Broja on a permanent deal with a very reasonable buy back for Chelsea
Batshuayi on a free (just so Chelsea can free the wages)
Gilmour loan (assuming we can buy Broja)
and there may be one more loan - I have a feeling we may enquire for Ndombele

You've made this point over and over Tim, but it's just plain naive.

1. Richie had to be sold before 30th June for us to fulfil our p&s commitments to the PL.

2. These same commitments prevent us from structuring deals where we pay significant amounts upfront (ie. in the new financial year), which significantly restricts our deal making ability for this window.

3. We have (still) a number of superfluous players on high contracts that simply are not going to be bid for in the first 95% of the window. We have to move them on to generate wriggle room to deal for more players - under those same commitments.

4. We are not City, United, RS, Chelsea - we cannot just go out and bid for who we like and expect them to want to come to us. (On this point, I get that neither are WHU, Forest, Leeds etc, but for them points 1-3 above don't apply).

5. Considering 1-4 above, and the universally understood nature of the summer transfer window, the players accessible to us are most likely to become available in the final 5% of the window.

All of the above is public knowledge and is generally accepted. And yet you are still expecting the club to defy those constraints somehow and berate them as 'not trying' if they don't.

And given this, as I said elsewhere, I think KT has done decently well to bring in Tark, Vinagre, McNeil and Gueye (assuming it closes) so far.

Now we're going to be bent over a barrel for strikers, but some club that wants to get a striker off its books will deal with us at the end of the window.

Might force us to make a decision on Cornet/Broja/Dennis that we may have otherwise been tempted to let slip.

Funds permitting of course.

Either that or we will bring in some completely useless stop gap.
