2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Problem is, it would just be sour if Dyche keeps talking about getting to the bottom of his injury woes, but then throwing him straight into a PL game after showing us his recovery plan for Garner and Patterson.

I mean we're desperate, so he probs will, but it's just sour for me.
It depends whether he really was being 'thrown in' or not. If they've been working with him for weeks and believe he's fully fit then asking him to play isn't throwing him in. If he's literally just got fit enough to get out on the pitch and they're saying right off you go for 90 minutes then it is. We never really know which one is happening, although obviously most people will always say it's the latter.

Would it be grotesque to wonder if body image considerations may be impacting his pursuit of fitness? Looking good and being fit aren't necessarily the same thing of course and he is a model as well.
I look forward to the day when we never ever have to wonder about such things as far as one of our players are concerned.

The club should have acted decisively on the Calvert-Lewin situation and made sure we never had to depend on him this season. They should have factored him out of our striker options.

Jesus wept.

We have enough U21 games for him to feature in on his recovery plan.

But it depends whether they believe that's necessary in his recovery plan, that's the whole point of what i'm saying. There isn't just one recovery plan for every injury, things are managed differently. Playing under 21 games might be used to build up a bit of sharpness for some players, it might be used as a tester for others to see how their body reacts to a match. It isn't a necessary part of every recovery, as evidenced by players at all clubs and all sports managing to come back without doing it.

I'd say someone as injury prone as him needs match practice in the U21's before the PL but that's just me.

Conversely I'd say there's a pretty strong argument that someone as injury prone as him shouldn't be risked in any game that isn't for our first team (unless the doctors and physios believe that it would have a material long term impact on his overall level of fitness) but that's just me.
