That might explain Why Frank answered the way he did, just warming into the interview maybe.

Fully expect him to be coming on as a sub at the very minimum.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he's suffering with a lack of confidence in his own fitness.

He spoke last season about how his mental health had suffered, and although he didn't explicitly say it was down to being injured for so long, that was certainly what a lot of people took away from his statement.

If he's profoundly worried about coming back too soon, you can imagine how he's feeling on match day might well be coming into Lampard's thinking about whether or not he's in the right mindset to play.

For me, that would at least explain some of the caginess from Lampard on the subject of his fitness.

"In contention" would surely mean he makes the matchday squad and bench. There is no reason why a theoretically fit player wouldn't.

By extension, and depending on events and context of the game as it unfolds, I'd expect him to get 10 minutes perhaps.

If if he is fit, and we're now told he is, he will almost definitely come on I'd imagine. Why would he not be utilised?
