This is the club / boards fault.

Not Dyche, not Dom.

This is on Thelwell and the board for putting us in such a ridiculous position.

It is gross professional negligence and incompetence.

Heads should roll for this alone, regardless of whether or not we manage to stay up.

They had ample time and opportunity to do something about this and passed up, maybe with disastrous consequences.
and then some
2 full windows and it was known Richy was leaving well before the summer
'gross professional negligence and incompetence' is exactly right

To everyone saying we should've addressed the striker problem, we actually did!

We bought Maupay!

I suspect the club knew what money was available and they took a chance on him. His past record was okay for the money spent so it was presumed he would chip in with a few goals.

Playing him in formations that did not suit his game and being lambasted by our fans has destroyed his confidence.

Please remember that after his first game here he was universally praised because the fans could see the team had better balance.
It wasn't
He could barely find the net in a Brighton team that created twice as many chances and played to his strengths
He was a terrible signing

I guess, but at the same token it's doesn't take hindsight to critique that as inadequate. I thought it was poor at the time.

His goal rate was never really the basis of his game, Factor the teams schemes its not as if that was a like replacement for Dom. I think the basis was to have a different option stylistically, when really they should have gotten more insurance that overlapped with Dom assuming likely absences and how predicated the schemes were on his availability.

And regardless of fit I think the calculation was poor. Maupay at 26, its not like there was a lot in relation to growth or ceiling in the deal. In the inverse if it was for present EPL chops he wasn't really a goal getter striker to begin with. And for a reported 15 million, the club could have searched Europe and I think muster a deal for something with more rationale.

We can say they got cover, its then a critique of just terrible recruitment.

Feel for him as he made a big difference when he came back but this is surely the end of the line for him as our first choice striker. Unlikely we’ll be able to offload him but we need to sign 2 strikers ahead of him in the Summer, regardless of what league we are in. He simply cannot be relied upon. It’s years now.

100% agree. But Dyche was the one in pressers bragging about getting DCL fit again.

The club has been run exactly the same since Moshiri took over. No matter who the Director of football was, no matter who the manager has been. The buck stops there

No, he’s like 25. He needs a good pre season. And then take it from there. I do however think if we stay up we must go out and find a striker similar to him but never gets injured. I’m hoping Gykores.

He had a good pre-season last year. I really don’t think that’s the answer. Also Ashton retired at 26.

I took it as he was more positive because of the time and effort taken to let him heal and hopefully ensure that he remained fit in the long-term.

As they say, we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, but you argue that it shows that Dom currently can't sustain the rigours of the PL.

If he ever can, well that's the multi-million pound question. As others have said, I don't think many would take a punt on him unless it's a drastically reduced price.

Regardless whether we stay up,if we don't sign a striker to play week in week out for next season then what's even the point.

He's come back had about 3 good games and got himself injured again, can't be trusted, just get rid, let him retire or whatever because he's just draining our wages.
