2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Didn't look overly sharp but that was just as much to do with the service as with the length of time he has been out.

A couple of times he showed exactly what we were missing in the Spurs 2nd half. An outlet, somebody that can hold the ball up, but it wasn't enough last night. A good 70 minutes in his legs, hopefully will continue that and against lesser defenses (we have to remember that Newcastle have a very good set up) he will start to build his confidence back up.

….the fear with big muscle injuries is that players sub-consciously protect them by playing with the hand brake on.

i remember it with James McCarthy who wasn’t right after his hamstrings started to pop, then he was outstanding in one & half games (Arsenal & RS I think) before he broke down again.

it’ll be fantastic if DCL gets healthy & robust but his situation is high risk and we need an effective alternative.

BTW, this feller is carrying about half a stone to a stone in weight too much. He looks overweight compared to where he was in previous seasons.

He's obviously not training as much and that's where it comes from. He's slower and has less spring in his jumps.

We really are knackered if we're relying on him.

…tend to agree. I think the shape looked better because he was more of a focal point but he was largely ineffective and clearly very rusty.

Early in the game the ball was punted up to him, he took the CB a yard back, arms & backside out, he took the ball on his chest. I had to smile because it was exactly the technique I mentioned in the Maupay thread a week or so ago.

We’ll be better with Dominic Calvert-Lewin but Thelwell can’t take the risk that he’ll be healthy for the rest of the season.

Thought it was a bit ironic Lampard brought on his two best crosses of a ball after he took Dominic Calvert-Lewin off.
Lampard's substitutions last night too late & incorrect Maupay looked as isolated than DCL - he should have gone 4 4 2 - also does he know he can make 5 subs?

His strengths are his pace and power, yet he doesn't use it, he jumped high for a header once though so let's watch us slide down the table until he scores a tap in and the helmets on here will say told you so.

I'd swap him for Calum Wilson who was running through brick walls for that lot.
