2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Surely there was another way of Dyche answering that question without battering his player's confidence even more just to save face himself.
xG can add up from poor chances too
He had one header last week and very rarely gets service across the six yard box which would suit him best
Dom is under performing but Dyche is under performing more imo
With any other manager, it could have been a clever change of approach. He’s spent ages saying Dom did well, still getting that true PL sharpness, clarity to score a goal, change the story. Whilst playing generally well he has continued to miss very big chances, and also doesn’t rack up assists. An astute manager may try an alternative tactic and publically criticise the player to get a reaction. But as you say, Dyche is one dimensional so more likely is defending his own approach.

Remember the days when strikers were praised for doing nothing all game, getting one chance after 74mins and BANG, game won. Now if we aren’t creating 46 back post tap ins for a striker it’s “what does everyone expect, we dont pass the ball properly too him.” On the occasions where we do put crosses in, none of our strikers have ever made the perfect run and got their body across a defender (Beto/Dom are still learning apparently about defending; why aren’t they learning that instead). On the occasions the perfect through ball is fed between 2 defenders, Dom is always offside, despite having great pace. In those circumstances we cant only blame the team/style, the striker blew the opportunity for a chance that your Watkins and even Michail Antonio at least get on the end of.

Far less gifted strikers than Dom have been much more effective in the PL. Not only can’t he finish, he hasn’t got the knack for making runs and gambling to space, and also hasn’t the knack of being in the right spot for scruffy tap ins in scrambles. Hence why he didn’t seem to be inundated with offers last summer and is regularly linked with Turkey.

A pretty poor team with a very poor manager has to create the perfect chance for Dom. Never happening. All parties to blame.

Didn't train since? Dyche said nothing bout him being out though, I think

No mate, Dyche mentioned nothing.

Not sure if he has or hasn't trained tbh. He wasn't in the last video they posted yesterday for sure.

tbf Dyche only talks about injuries if he's asked specifically about certain players. I don't even remember anyone asking him about Mcneil. Only Ndiaye, Doucoure and Branthwaite were talked about.

Still waffling about playing both strikers too. Might not be the worst timing to make the Beto decision for him, so long as they actual train to play to Beto’s strengths and don’t just straight swap.

Side note: exactly the thing that makes Dom’s decision to leave himself uncontracted is a huge gamble for himself. With his history he should always be advised to take fair contract offers with agreement (either in writing or gentleman’s) over leaving if certain offers come in.

The last 2 seasons in terms of injuries and form mean he should have moved way way past overconfidence and hardball negotiating.

I don't get the logic of continually playing someone who doesn't want to be here and is clearly playing within himself.

Even on the radio they are noticing his lack off effort, when usually it's the same stuff over and over about how he's our best striker so we've gotta stick with him.

Have some self-respect and bomb him out if he is not signing the ting.
