2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

We are that bad we could not beat ten men !
Yes, but usually a good player will have stand out performances in a poor team. I just don’t see that with Beto or DCL. I had hoped for years that DCL would come good. He just isn’t going to though, and it’s the same with Beto.

With a midfield 3 aged over 100 years old = no creation = no goals who ever is no 9
It’s like if Spurs fans blamed the centre backs for conceding loads of goals under Ossie Ardilles. Were the centre backs crap or was it that the manager played five forwards and two defenders.

DCL is a good player who loves Everton he’s put his body on the line for the club and loves it, unlike that fraud Dyche.

No forward is scoring many goals in this team, it’s not him, it’s the manager and his tactics. DCL is looking isolated and disolusioned. So would I be if I was stood upfront feeding off scraps, with dinosaur tactics and everyone blaming me for not scoring or being out of form. If we get a decent manager and he signs a contract he’s still a good player but needs much better service and more attacking tactics.

Every week on this thread posters blame him yet today v a bog average United side thumped 4- 0.

Beto was set up to fail today. No doubt DCL will be back to spearhead our pop gun attack at home to Wolves where I’m quietly confident he’ll once again fail to create a chance for himself or anybody else. (Yes, strikers are actually allowed to do that)

I know, I barely even read this thread anymore. A guy who’d bleed blue for the club being hung out to dry by an absolute dinosaur of a manager with tactics that would leave prime Ronaldo looking like a diddy. He’s a competent prem centre forward, on his day, very good. He’s over the injuries now. He’s lost confidence, he’s out of form but people should be venting their spleens at that bald fraud of a manager, not DCL. Disgrace really.

Beto did all he could today - DCl had a diving header that hit the keeper the only decent supply cross of the game - our fullbacks were crap no overlapping poor defensively outpaced - 2- 0 down no substitutions as per usual Dyche has to go !

DCL has done very well out of Everton and if people want to call out bad performances, of which there have been many recently, then they're more than entitled to.

People such as yourself complain that DCL is being hung out to dry by dinosaur tactics but it's actually playing on his best attributes. Do you honestly think he's capable of playing intricate attacking football that other teams use? He's no threat to the opposition outside the box with his link up play, he can't shoot from further than 12 yards and has no ability to beat a man. Getting him to chase down lost causes and be a pain in the backside for opposition centre halves brings out the best in him when he can bother himself to get involved, which has been a rarity this season.

I don’t mind people criticising his performances, I said he’s not in good form, doesn’t look confident. He looks like he’s lost faith in the manager and his tactics, I understand that entirely.

As for, the tactics suit him… Getting balls launched at you with no support doesn’t suit any striker. Yeah he’s good in the air and can hold the ball up but fullbacks who barely cross the half way line/put any crosses into the box, no link up play with players making forward runs and dragging defenders out of position creating space for the forward.

This would be a very difficult set up to play in as a forward. I don’t think any of the forward/attacking players will enjoy playing the current tactics, it’s very difficult for them.

Flip side you’d be laughing as a centre back, it’s really easy set up to play. Fullbacks play as auxiliary centre backs, defensive midfielders give you lots of protection. You’re barely exposed. We defend as an 11 and attack with 3. You’d be a nut not to see the reason the forwards struggle.

The whole attacking set up is a mess. Partly to do with the manager and partly to do with the players being nowhere near good enough. Ndiaye is the only one who I think has shown anything this season that suggests he could play for a midtable Premier League side.

DCL is very much a big part of this poor attacking unit. Can any player confidently pass it into his feet and expect a one two? Are the opposition ever worried he's going to drop his shoulder and curl one in from 20 yards? I'd say not. He's a limited player, a throwback to football 20 years ago, and I doubt many clubs will be interested in him as their main forward when he moves on.

Different manager would do him and a few others a world of good. I still think he’s a good player, he was regularly getting in the England squad at one point until injury.

I also used to think criticism of the defenders when we had the slowest, weakest midfield in the league, that put no pressure on the ball letting teams constantly break on the defenders, leaving them totally exposed, was harsh. The centre backs and defence have looked more competent last season and this but they’re so protected under Dyche. The system suits them, makes defending easier, we keep more clean sheets and they look better.

A manager that gets a better balance going forward would see happier attacking players, more chances, more goals.

He’s not THE problem Joey (that’s Dyche) BUT he’s a BIG problem that coexists with the other problems we have.

For me his centre forward play is decent (on his day in the air he is unplayable) but he just does not score enough goals and whilst you are right about chance creation, even when we do create chances for him, his chance conversion is really poor.
