wonderful tonight, did pretty much everything that was asked of him and great composure for the goal. Fingers crossed here that he's not a striker who'll go missing in these sort of games, based on tonight, it was very very positive. his best game so far for us i believe, showed great confidence.

Regular European qualifications weren't bad. Not saying build a team around DCL just saying if he's still contributing to assists and team goals then what difference does it make if he's not prolific? He's 20, he's got time.

Yeah but at the same time if he is going to make that starting position his own then scoring goals on a consistent basis is going to be a big part of that.

If you play up front for a top team you need to score goals.

For me he is going to be a Dunc type goalscorer. 1 in 3, headed goals, a few tap ins and the odd great one from just outside the box. Like Dunc he will contribute to the team much more than just goals.

This was the point I was trying to make. Dunc was never prolific.

Because we want Everton to aim higher than mid table ! Centre forwards at top teams score goals, otherwise they don't play for top teams. It's quite simple.

I certainly would have. Then again, if you'd told me City would play most of the game with 10 men I'd be less pleased. Draws away at City against 10 men are boss results if you're trying to finish 7th, but look more like missed opportunities when you're aiming higher.

I'm not sure our points return from two games has a lot to do with my point though.

My point was one poor header and it's 6 points with DCL not scoring but contributing to both goals with assists. Lukaku scored 25 goals and we achieved nothing last year. This lad being prolific isn't a massive issue for me whilst he's learning.

That's true and indeed his running the channels helped him to set up Rooney for the goal. Agree with the rest, but if we're serious about breaking the top 6 this year we're going to need to hugely upgrade in that position in terms of goalscoring ability as it's infinitely more important over the course of a season, as we'd find out if we persevered with DCL as a first choice (unless of course there is a top goalscorer in him that we haven't seen yet).

Oh I fully agree we need an upgrade, I just meant that from what little we have seen from him playing as a forward, its hard to tell if he will be a 15 goal a season player or one who will only get 6-7.
