The reason Koeman plays these youngsters, particularly DCL, Davies and Holgate is that they play exactly as he wants them to in any particular game. Last night DCL was integral to Koeman's plan in an away tie and you can't fault the way he played. (I said something similar about how Davies played when he came on.) . If people don't like RK that's fine, but any evaluation of a game needs to take into account what he was trying to do and how someone like DCL played in it . Mission achieved. DCL has a lot more learning and developing to do , that's exciting, and part of that development is playing out wide at times . He's not a winger but the skills he's being asked to develop playing out wide will be essential if he is to make it as a first class striker. It comes back to something I've said a number of times on here, at 20 his development in the twelve months since he arrived has been amazing, the most progress of any youngster at the club from the base he was at. Davies was probably at a higher base 12 months ago.

It's not that mate. It's the lad's touch and distribution which is not top class. His movement is ok. But that's not enough.
He can only get better though. I agree his finishing needs a lot of improvement but that will come on the training ground. I think everyone can see we need a new striker, but if no one is available (which is what it looks like) we will go with this lad

A lot will not think about that.

Because we have spent a bit of cash, a few seem to now have an air of self entitlement and demand that the players we play now need to be worldies and have us challenging for the league.

Exactly part of the reason why young players do not get a game at Chelsea and City - rich owners, demands immediate success to justify their spend in the transfer market.

We are going about it nicely, spending a few quid and bringing some top talent through and doing it the right way. You are one of a few who sees it as it is, good post.

Shoot me down in flames but....

He reminds me of a poor mans Harry Kane.

Needs to be more clinical, but I do see some similarities.

Kane was very raw to start with. It was questionable if he would even be a top flight footballer.
DCL has improved at a quicker rate than Harry since his debut. If he continues to improve at the same rate and put in consistent performances like the one at City we will have a special player.

Will say I thought he needed a season on loan in Championship like Dowell is getting but after watching him so far this season he is proving me wrong. Yes he is still very raw and will make mistakes but the player we are seeing now compared to the one last season is a massive difference. If he continues to improve at the same rate over this season we have one of the bargains of the decade on our hands.

Lukaku can slot.

We don't know if DCL can or can't yet. In his first dozen or so games in the Premier League, Lukaku - playing as an actual striker - had done the square sum of nothing in terms of goals, in a better side.

What we do know is Lukaku is awful technically and that has been borne out. On the other hand, we know nothing whatsoever about Calvert-Lewin yet, except in terms of movement and technique he's on another level to Lukaku, which is admittedly not a big achievement.

You can criticise him after 30 odd games, but doing so after a handful just seems silly. This time last year his highest level of football was League Two - give the lad a chance.

Has he? Do you mean that he's played in La Liga?
He needs to prove himself in the Premier League just as much as DCL does
Came through the best youth system in the world, played for barca, went to an average la liga team to play more games and was one of he highest scorers in the league. Miles better player than dcl when it comes to ability

The absolute state of people expecting a 20 year old to be the finished article.

You realise players arent born world class footballers right?
no, but we are a top 6 outfit in the premier league and do not have the time to put developmental prospects in the first team.

The below proving the point just made in these two posts spectacularly lol
