ESPN have a lot of these with famous sports stars. Theres one with a Canadian hockey player that i like.

I wonder how famous is Landon Donovan in the U.S though? I wonder if a lot of people wonder who he is when this commercial comes on?

He is the most famous US soccer player.. which means alot of people probably dont know who he is.. but, people who like soccer know who he is..

I have a lot of relatives in the us, most of them dont even know they have a mens soccer team. I asked my gf's uncle was he watching the world cup, he said " whats that? I tried to explain it to him, but he could not grasp the concept of players playing for their countries in a tournament. It was like watching a guy in a wheelchair trying to go up some stairs on his own. I gave up in the end and talked about The Longhorns.

welcome to my world Blue.. It's a hard fight to win the minds of Americans.. One positive: is the fact that at one point in my life I hated Soccer.. thought it was a sport for kids and woman.. My mind changed one day out of the blue watching a US friendly.. So i know people can change... and I have converted a few people myself

Thing is i converted him to an Evertonian. He watches a lot of our games, and talks about the games with me. I said to him that if he watches our games, i would watch the Texas Longhorns games and talk about it with him. So we both did that, and we both got hooked on the others teams.
My girlfriends family all they talk about is the Longhorns, so i had to get involved.
International football is another thing though, They cannot grasp it no matter how hard i try. I just wanted them to watch one game, but no they just wont. My gf's mothers side of the family are French though, so they are used to it all, as is my gf who spent most of her life in France.
