Right. How bout that.
sorry to say guys, never gonna happen, 12 million, first of all, is nowhere near enough for the pair, not even for one of the two, considering standard has an automatic group stage place in the CL next season.
the players themselves are absolute class, you may not have seen witsel play that much nor heard of him as much as defour but if we could get either of them id piss my pants with joy. defour we've all heard of, last season player of the year, captain at standard since he was 19, DMC, AMC, RM so hes pretty versatile, very good at crossing the ball though i suppose arteta is the fixed player for those situations. he is a leader, a fighter and only 21.
The main reason, however, why defour would be an excellent signing is his partnership with marouane fellaini. they played together for ages, and they did it well, know each other inside and out, can play off each other and when combining get the ball forward to whichever striker just happens to be in the area.
Witsel is by many regarded to be the greater prodigy, and he's got the physique to go along with it, the guy's an animal. a survey did come out last week saying he was the most overrated player in belgium and to be honest i agree. he's a gem, no doubt and he can achieve great things, i think it's even safe to say he could come here and have the same kind of first season fellaini had (minus the yellows), but he wouldnt be as consisten as defour, nor does he have the defensive skills required to sit alongside fellaini, cahill or arteta in center mid, youd have to play him out on the right (which actually wouldnt be a bad thing seeing as osman isnt the blues' greatest player(though he does a decent job, no offence to ozzy))
defour would be the better buy, the partnership with fellaini would benefit everton invaluably, itd give mofro the clarity he needed this season as to where he should play. put fellaini together with defour, both in a slight DM position with arteta as a libero (playmaker) in front of them and they could do serious damage. suppose he doesnt start right away (cuz well i wasnt the only guy surprised at the playing opportunities fellaini got right from the start i'm sure), as a sub with such leadership skills and that versatility hed be the supersub we wish we had. drop him in front of the defence, behind the strikers, on the right (all three positions have been his at some point or another at standard) and he would not disappoint
If it were up to me id get them both instantly. imagine next season having a midfield trio, granted not one that would start everytime, that has played together for years and the oldest would be 22. two belgian players of the year (witsel won this year) and a belgian everton youngster of the year, all playing in the english sub-top? thats my wet dream waiting to happen
sorry for the long and not so clear reply but if one of them were to come to everton, id be a pretty happy elephant b)
