is he inconsistant because boro are crap?

he hasnt set the england setup alight, and although a natural left footer with a bit of pace and occasional good delivery - him being an england fringe player will put his cost that much to high for us.
theres better and cheaper abroad.

I would seriously prefer Barry- more industrious and probably half the price too!

i just read a swap could be on the cards with vdm and bt going to boro and us makeing it up to 10 million quid so i think we got to put 5/6 million cash in

Ok, Downing...
If you watch middlesbrough play, Downing usually plays great, he has skill and can cross, he can also shoot.
However is this just an average player excelling in a bad team? Like Davies in Fulham?
He will be over priced, like Carrick, but i think we should get him, then we actually have a left winger that we know can cross well.
And tbh, dont think of him compared to Barry or any other left winger...
Think of him compared to Osman - Downings much better, got more strength a higher work rate and everything...

And Danny, downing would be the replacement of osman if he was signed, they have the same roll, exept osman plays on the right, but if we signed dwning arteta would go on the right.

Have not seen Downing play enough to have a valid opinion about him. But reading about him for the past few years it seems that he is mighty overrated and is only in the England team because of his relationship to McC and the lack of left sided players.
Still if we can get him for £5 m. + BT and VDM I believe it would be a good piece of business.
