ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

The comparison doesn’t take account of the relative strength of the premier league either. Mourinho’s Chelsea for example had to compete against the invincibles, Fergie’s United, Liverpool’s CL winners, even our side that finished 4th. 95 points in that league conceding only 15 is an unbelievable achievement. United around 08/09 had Benitez’s Liverpool, resurgent City and Spurs, Chelsea were CL finalists and title winners, Arsenal challenging for the title. Even we had one of our best prem sides getting to a cup final and European regulars.

The top 6 aside from City Liverpool and Spurs are a shambles this season, we’ve been poor, the fact that a newly promoted side is in 7th tells you all you need to know, Huddersfield Fulham and Cardiff are probably not even championship standard. It’s been a low quality season that is conducive to a high points total for two teams financially doped to the max pushing each other to not be able to coast through any game.

Comparisons to any other season are futile. Put this Liverpool team in a game on a neutral venue against United of Ronaldo Rooney Tevez Berbatov, or against Mourinho’s Chelsea, or Henry Bergkamp Pires etc. and see how they’d fare. I doubt the apparent ten point difference in quality would quickly disappear and they’d probably be on for a hiding similar to the ones they’ve received from ageing Madrid and Barcelona teams recently.

Agree with every word. Plus if you were creating a Liverpool premier league Xi most would only have VVD and Robertson as considerations from the current side.

I think you'd have to have their left back over Digne simply due to their great league performance this season. I'd rather have Digne as he suits us perfectly, but Robertson has slotted in nicely for them and got a tonne of assists to his name. Van Dijk goes without saying he's in team of the year. Watch him get Balon D'Or over Messi as well lol

I want the RS to score six at Analfield in a complete rout.
I also want City to score just the one goal they need.
Then the rats will know how it feels to lose a title on the final day, just as we did in 1986.

Don't dream it's over.

Their fans will be stalking the City players in Brighton and doing all they can do sabotage the game. Hell, there's plenty of filthy RS down that end of the country.

Wouldn't surprise me if several key City players took ill in the days prior to the game. Pep needs to ensure his players are kept under lock and key frow now until the referee's whistle.
I'm certain there's an ale house down there claiming to be the biggest RS supporters pub.
There was an item in a paper claiming as much.

I want Liverpool to beat Wolves, obviously as long as City win, but i want them to win just so the last points lost was ours, it was us that swung it for city

Benitez’s team of Reina Arbeloa Agger Carragher Aurelio Mascherano Alonso Gerrard Kuyt Torres Benayoun was the best Liverpool team I’ve seen in the prem. An absolute dog of a team with amazing physicality who barely conceded and could bully teams off the park. They also had the likes of Hyypia Keane Babel Sissoko on the bench.

Their midfield was genuinely one of the best in Europe at the time (rather than the imaginary claims about the current side) and they had 4 genuine world class players at the time with genuine winning experience throughout the team.

This current team barely has a winner anywhere in it (Milner aside maybe) and has potentially one or two world class players (Salah and Van Dijk potentially). The rest are very good but have done nothing to prove it.

In an all time Liverpool prem 11 potentially none of the ‘best front three in the world’ would even make it. Suarez Torres and probably then a toss up for that third spot between Fowler/Owen/Salah

The Respecto Cup!

Just watched the goal again, great line by Gary Neville " where you want your statue Vincent Kompany" thought it was a great comment and suited the situation perfectly.
Aye. It was a great line. Not just for that goal, but for the man and everything he's achieved with City, AND that goal to top it off (if they go on to win it). A truly fantastic captain, level headed, loved by the fans and club, respected by other teams. Oh and a superb player, too. He probably deserves a statue if that's the goal that wins the title for them - I genuinely don't think they were scoring if he didn't smash that into the top corner. Aguero, Sterling, Silvas, Gundogan, all utterly useless last night. They need to wake up and perform against Brighton or Kompany's goal will count for nothing.
