Lol - Guardiola said you can't go to Anfield and attack as you have less than 1% chance of winning and that they're the best team in the world at transition from defence to attack. Guess you isn't hear that though and chose to take one line totally out of context lol

I guess you can put the Pep Guardiola 'Best team in the world at transition from defence to attack' trophy on the shelf next to the Sergio Ramos special award for the Team most likely to almost win the Champion's League with a concussed goal keeper and just above the Best fans in der werld certificate for hitting a stationary coach with rocks and beer bottles.

Appreciate that they have won a lot of trophies (over the years) so there's not much doubt about that - we certainly can debate their present capacity for adding to that list (even if it is better than our prospects). But I'm thinking of writing a small article on "why they call us Bitter" - one angle of course is the Heysel element but I'm interested in whether you agree that those fans who do stick the "Bitter knife" in are inadequate for that reason. Surely it's enough to be able to lord it over is - trophies, years since we beat them, our trophy drought, years since we won at the Pit and all that. Isn't that good enough? What kind of mentality switches from all those reasons to "win the day" that it is still necessary to make it personal? Your thoughts, please and also on what kind of appropriate response (that isn't lowering the tone to that level) might be a suitable put down.

Their complete irrelevance at the top level of English football for the best part of 30 years has resulted in them desperate to try and claw back some of the limelight that was once deservedly lavished on them. They’ve had to watch their club go from being the best in Europe to one that struggles to win trophies of any type. Whilst other clubs (ourselves painfully included) have accepted their current status in the football world, their fans genuinely consider their club to be up there with the likes of Madrid Barca Chelsea United Bayern etc. As the years pass and more and more evidence stacks up to dispel this myth they become more bitter and fall back on the one thing they have going for them at the moment that they are better than us. That is why Kiev is so painful for them (and why they’ve made such efforts to sweep it under the carpet). It was their free pass to another decade or so of avoiding their own mediocrity much like Istanbul was. Without it though they’ve had to face up to the reality that they haven’t won anything of note for 12 years and Klopp hasn’t changed that. It’s probably the reason why they’ve behaved like children over an unlikely title challenge this season as well as some sort of coping mechanism for what happened in the summer ‘ah yeah but it doesn’t matter we lost because we’re winning the title’. If they don’t trouble any major trophy this season you sense there’ll be an eruption because Klopp has foolishly fed their already deluded expectations to the point they now believe they’re the best team in Europe. If this expectation is met with the cold reality of another 4th placed finish and no trophies then they will demand blood.

I know this is meant to be a piss take thread and I've avoided it since joining the forum since I think we as a fanbase (in parts) are to obsessed with them and it hurts us but....

One of things that I think has contributed to ruining the relationship between Liverpool and Everton fans is that both teams have had a period of domination in the derby games. In the 90's it was us and the Dogs of War. They didn't like it and it fuelled a certain atmosphere. That's been turned on it's head in the 00's and 10's. We've had very limited success against them and we have fans who've hardly ever seen us beat them. They've beaten us with 10 men and battered us a few times. They've also won the odd trophy whilst we haven't. That switching of extreme fortunes in derby games has had an effect on atmosphere and relationship. They were desperate to beat us in the 90's and we could lord it over them. They have the upper hand now and have thrown in the 1995 stuff for good measure. It's understandable how this fuels feelings on both sides. It's not the only reason but I think it plays a part.

Again I know this is a piss take thread but I feel uncomfortable reading this thread and someone opposing being called 'bitter' when we have other poster calling them 'wall pushing beauts' about 10 posts up. That doesn't sit right with me. Both things aren't right but we can't take the moral high ground when people are throwing stuff like that around.

I'll probably give this thread a miss from now on and enjoy the rest of the forum discussing how Everton can progress over the next few months and years. That seem much more fun and worthwhile than obsessing about the RS and how we match up to them. To me that doesn't help us at all. As hard as it living in the City and coming across their smug faces every day, we'd be much better placed as a fanbase if we collectively ignored them and focussed on our own team. We can't match up to them currently in terms of finances, performance or even in a one off game generally. So why compare ourselves and beat ourselves up about it? Let it go. It's an exciting time to be a Blue. Enjoy the ride and forget about what's happening across Stanley Park.

I'm off to enjoy the rest of the forum now.

Yes, they've won f.. all in the past 13 years and losing finals must be frustrating - if only we could get that close - they've lost an FA Cup Final to a superior Chelsea, a LC to a massively superior City and three European finals to a superior Milan, a superior Sevilla and, patently, superior Real Madrid. That isn't worth beating yourself up about - if only we could be that close. I suppose if your raison d'etre is "to win trophies" (another ridiculous moniker) then losing them must be painful (as is having to scrap the 6 times bus). To get that close (2014) is galling for them in much the same way 1986 was for us. I don't remember feeling terribly sad in 1986 - apart from typically missing out to them mainly because we were that good and I thought, correctly, we'd win it soon enough. So perhaps it is a defence mechanism in part due to their missing out on trophies.
