I hope Liverpool win and get through to the KO stage.

They have zero chance of winning the CL and we need them to be involved in competitions other than the PL. If they get a free hand to just play in all seriousness on one front, it's a BIG advantage.

You could argue that the EL would detract from them even more.

No it wouldn't. If they get knocked out of CL they'd be in Europa league which means playing on a Thursday night and then Sundays in the league. That's a far worse position to be in. Means they;d constantly be chasing City who'd be playing on Saturdays most of the time.
