ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

In our group WhatsApp we have many different teams supported as we are from West Cumbria so you can choose who you want. The token Newcastle fan and yes he is a bit of an idiot when it comes to football suggested the RS fans should all buy him a pint at end if the season if the RS win the league. However yesterday he realised it would be unbearable so put a meme in the group about how the whole country was behind Liverpool. I replied by saying I hope Gerrard rejoins from Rangers in the hope of getting a medal and messes it up again. I also offered to buy the Newcastle fan said beers if they don't win. I then really cranked the pressure up by saying my moneys safe as its the RS title to lose now. That was enough to trigger one of the RS fans to bite as he told me yo hurry up and find some new mates as my banter is [Poor language removed]. I'll qualify that by saying I hD joked I would need to find some new mates as every night out I try and organise no one is available. They obviously are seeing the 5 year cycle panning out again 2009 when Torres was on fire Benetiz bottled it against a few little teams at Analfield FACT. Then in 2014 Gerrard bottled it after Rodgers tried to win a game they only needed to draw. My only worry is that City have never defended a title and Spurs bottle it just as much as the RS. My mate proper scops one if you ever have a dig at Gerrard!!

Very surprised they didn't try to bring anyone in. The debt must be starting to show its teeth. In fact they probably did try but just couldn't afford to.

They looked absolutely cooked against Leicester. The warm weather breaks and lack of domestic cup action doing nothing for their depleted energy reserves so it's something of a mystery as to why they didn't bring in some fresh legs.

With West Ham getting a host of players back for Monday this could be the last weekend Liverpool go into at the top of the league. But I suppose the shareholders need their cut. And that debt isn't going to pay itself. And the second highest wage bill in English football can't be held back.

Worrying times.

It could also just be a case of (like us needing a striker) they don't see the value of buying in the Jan window mate.

If it's the difference between winning the league and not then value is almost irrelevant.

Not getting a striker for us might mean finishing 9th instead of 7th or something.

Fact is neither team can afford to buy until we sell.

I hope we win as I always do but if we lose after playing really well I won't be too disappointed vice versa If we lose after playing dreadfully I will be annoyed. That's generally the case. However If I had a magic ball which told me that if we beat City the RS win the league it would be lose every day of the week. I know lots of Man Utd fans not glory hunters proper fans and they feel the same when they play City. Hate the RS with a passion.

Maybe there is no value in the market.

Chelsea (Higuain loan & 1.17 billion debt) Spurs ( £1 billion stadium debt) United (£500 million debt) didn't strengthen and Arsenal Got Dennis Suarez only loan, and city state owned didn't even buy anyone for the first time in January since they got Sheikh Mansour.

This has to be the slowest and lowest monetary January window on record home and abroad.

None of the big clubs on the continent bought anyone, what does that say @Steve0

That says to me Summer is going to be a big one with all those clubs i named going on huge splurges, top 4 race is stronger than ever now and those clubs are miles away from the rest of the PL on and off the pitch, they are in a different market for players who are top level and top teams don't sell their best players in January with CL last 16 on the horizon.

Some sense in that. Not sure about the last bit though. Arsenal and Chelsea don't look miles ahead to me at all.

Chelsea have signed pulisic as well. He looked set for Anfield at one point but Chelsea swooped.

Maybe Liverpool just couldn't afford him after wasting so much on Keita and Fabinho? Who knows.

Luckily for us both your summer assessments of Keita and Fabinho were waaaaaay off the mark whereas mine were spot on.

I thought this too. To be fair, the areas that they are particularly light due to injury, they have players coming back (i.e defence and midfield - Gomez, Alexander-Arnold and Chamberlain). January isn't the most efficient window for any club to be buying in unless it's absolutely critical. They are 5 points clear so hardly desperate for reinforcements, at least no more so than you could say City are.
