LOL. If you actually watch it as it happened that picture doesn’t tell the full story. The bloke with the glasses is an absolute star.

Don’t forget his back pass straight to Henry at Euro 2004 which led to the penalty to lose the game 2-1.Any time Gerrard is mentioned as a "great" for England or a "leader", I remember 2 things.
1. His stupid header that went past / over Jags & Cahill for Suarez to score at the WC....then he sent Jags out to face the press in the interview....as Captain Coward stayed in the changing room.
2. The last game before that World Cup, sure their was torrential rain and the game got stopped as storms died down....Gerrard could not get off the pitch quick enough....running past his team mates to get out of the storm....I though he was supposed hold his head up high and not be afraid of it!?!?!

He was just in the wrong sport, is all. Now if he'd tried out for the UK Olympic diving team...He was an utter nonentity of an international player. Just got outclassed tournament after tournament at the international level. Spent his whole England career chasing shadows of better players. Massively massively overrated.

In fairness to Gerrard, that was most of that "golden generation" too.
I quite like the fact a less appreciated and discernibly talented group of players have completely outdone what they did. The manager and team seem much nicer as well.
As a non Englander, I am forever grateful that no England manager had to balls to drop Lampard or Gerrard and put Barry or Hargreaves in there beside one of them.I agree but no one can say that Rooney Beckham Owen didn’t perform for England. They stood out on the international stage as some of the best in the world in their position. Gerrard just got schooled by any half decent international midfielder who went up against him. Successive England managers playing 442 just exposed the fact he always needed an Alonso type behind him actually making the play and pulling the strings whilst he hit Hollywood balls and loitered on the edge of the box for knock downs. As soon as he had to play some midfield for England we could barely put a pass together.
This team under Southgate has done ok because Southgate has ignored the brain dead English media, picked the best players regardless of club, and hasn’t created a two tier squad of sky 6 untouchables and then also rans. Pickford Maguire Rice Phillips have all played big roles in tournaments when not at a top 6 team, that just would never have happened under Sven, McLaren, Capello or Hodgson
