The officer suffered a laceration to his face and was treated at Anfield stadium after the attack at about 11:50 BST, Merseyside Police said.
Eight people were held on suspicion of various offences, including hate and tragedy chanting, and ticket touting.
Police described the behaviour as "totally unacceptable".

did a pissstained German tramp encourage lots of rugby fans to turn up without tickets?Isn't it strange that the same country, it’s police force and the very same stadium that had massive issues and were completely in the wrong and at fault when hosting our murderous cousins from across the park can manage to hold a multiple match rugby World Cup finals, with fans from all corners of the world travelling and attending without the vaguest hint of any trouble or problems, for the many thousands of fans going to the matches, entering the stadiums with their tickets, interacting with the French police, other fans and the local youth and all generally having a very enjoyable time….
I just don’t know What could possibly be the difference between France hosting a cl final involving the pedz, and France hosting a rugby World Cup?!!!
