The issue with this is unless you are at the top of the tree e.g City or 09-11 Barcelona, you end up losing to teams who are better at this style than you. Arsenal under Wenger in the latter years were a very good possession team but did nothing in the league and got battered in Europe most seasons, and I’d argue he’s a far better manager than most at it.

It’s an extremely difficult form of football to pursue and tbh it’s one the Kopites have never embraced. They’re not a possession team, it’s not in their identity, kick and rush, long ball, counterattack is what they’ve all been brought up on. Would love for them to fall between two stools with Slot.

You're right, but I think they'll try and go that way believing they can do the Ange-ball stuff to a better level with less risk with more expensive players and hope that Guardiola leaves in the next couple of seasons and replace him with a lesser quality model of manager.

Ultimately this change of Liverpool's will be necessitated by the crazy to keep up drugs regime. They know they cant persevere with that model as it leads to barely sustainable boom and bust.

We'll see a pressing style but there'll be a lot more discipline to it and in-game management of the dosing of effort.
