For me Van Dijk is massively overrated. He's a good centre back, but not a great in my opinion. Seen him make plenty of mistakes. But he's nowhere near the all time prem greats like John Terry, Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Stam, Carvalho etc. I would have him in the next tier of defenders like Bruce, Pallister, Dave Watson.

His reading of the game and ability to usher attackers off the ball was outstanding and he had a good change of pace as well. Also the marshalling of their offside trap was pivotal to their success as it meant they could play with a really high line. Has definitely dropped off in the last year or so though so not bothered that he's staying.
