ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

They believe in socialism as long as you are one of them. Otherwise you can go and hang.

Which was Shankly's 'socialism' too: he couldn't give a flying fcuk who he stepped on - friend or foe - in order to win trophies and gain notoriety.

It's a complete joke the mystique that surrounds that feller. Inspirational football manager? Yes, defo. Sage and all-round man of the people? Do me a favour, he wasn't even close.

Having said that, I'm not convinced that Liverpool is the only club with fans that'd react in such a way.

I genuinely think they are. Nobody else thinks the world is out to get them like Liverpool fans do. No other set of fans has such a huge chip on their shoulders. No other set of fans goes on and on and on about their own city (ironic really, given the accents you hear in Anfield) and about how they're scouse not English etc blah blah blah.....

Oh, do me a favour.

They are, for the most part, complete and utter frauds. The myth-makers amongst them (we all know who they are) have created some fantasy narrative whereby Libpoolfc are rogues with, essentially, a heart of gold who have been done down by the forces of authority but who still have the drop on everyone because they're special and can overcome all setbacks.

The herd then try and live up to all that tosh from the myth-makers and they dont care how many casualties they create along the way to nail down the image they have of themselves.

It's ****ing tragic, it really is.

Liverpool supporters made paranoid by the actions of their club: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...as-sparked-tribal-reaction-article850863.html

Powar told Sportsweek on BBC Radio Five Live: "If you look at the comments Dalglish has been making, if you look at how Liverpool resort to defend what they see as an injustice, look at the way their fans have been whipped up into a tribal fervour.
"Some of the words being used to describe the FA processes, some of the ways used to describe the FA and its role in governance on these sort of issues, that is really beyond the pale."
Powar claims Liverpool are not setting an appropriate example to their supporters, adding: "The environment at Anfield is so driven - in terms of the paranoia that some fans feel - [by] expressions of injustice from Liverpool, especially over the last few weeks."

Downing in trouble now

Footballer Stewart Downing was last night arrested on suspicion of assault after allegedly hitting an ex-girlfriend in a nightclub row.

The Liverpool winger and England international, 27, was arrested after a late night fracas at a pub in the upmarket suburb of Yarm, near Middlesborough, at about 1am last night.

It is claimed that he assaulted his ex-partner, with whom he is thought to have a child, after rowing with her while drinking at the Cross Keys club on Yarm High Street.

A local source told the Mail Online that there had been an incident between the two of them.

'She went over to one of his friends and said something that she shouldn't have,' the source said.

'He butted in and they were arguing.' It's then that the source alleged that he hit her.

The source continued: 'Police got there as they were thrown out. He caused a scene outside the club as well, when he realised they were going to take him in.'

While relatively upmarket, Yarm is notorious as a hangout for 'scrotes' - a slang term for young people - who go there for nights out, our source said. It is also a well known hangout for footballers.

Another defence from RAWK that actually shows just how far their racism goes back.........

As somebody who has been going to the match for 50 years I am amazed how far racist comments have been crushed at Anfield. I can remember standing next to a black guy in the Kop in the 70's as "Oh we don't have niggers on the Kop!" was belted out. Nobody, including me I'm ashamed to say, said or did anything, as that chant was deemed acceptable, indeed a thing to be proud of!. The fact that one blert might have shouted someting something last night is lamentable, but it reflects just how far we as a club have come.
Our defence of Luis needs to be seen against that backdrop - we don't tolerate racism and we won't stand for injustice.

Racism in football was a big issue in the 70s thought and I really doubt that Liverpool were the only club with them kind of chants.

Probably not, it's more to the point that over the years liverpool fans have whitewashed, if you'll pardon the pun, any attachment to racism in their history while quite happily finding any excuse to remind us of shameful racial incidents of the past.
