ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Yes. It reflects worse on Liverpool, obviously, but it also reflects badly on Everton. I think if I was a Juventus fan and I saw some of the insults some Everton fans come out with I'd think they were grade A tossers to be fair.

I think in the hierarchy of shame over Heysel Everton might come way down a very long list. The way you have this down at the moment is that 'yes, we have the lions share of blame over the shame of the Heysel disaster, but you lot come next'. That's a disgraceful type of guilt by association that we dont deserve.

Typical of the blame everyone else culture you obviously cant get away from.

You've done some terrible, questionable things, Antonio. Time for some self awareness and acceptance for you. Scattergun posts across the internet in defence of your lovely club just won't do it.

No, not really. I've just always had an issue with Everton fans thinking it's their god given right to be able to use something like that to get one over on Liverpool. It should be treated as a tragedy, which is what it was, and not some kind of tool for oneupmanship.

But now a lot of you are doing the exact thing you've been moaning about for 136 pages and acting in complete denial of the point I made.

It can't be considered oneupmanship if you have never accepted responsibility ("it wuz Chelsea")

Just like you haven't apologised over Suarez/Dalglish.

You've never accepted responsibility for anything. Ever!

Maybe I am a bit older than you + can remember LFC fans openly laughing at Everton BECAUSE of the European ban. The most disturbing piece of 'oneupmanship' I have ever witnessed.

Again, you've let yourself down there, mate. I reckon the self-restraint that Evertonians have shown over the years over Heysel and all its aftereffects is quite remarkable and stands in stark contrast to the typical gobshitery of the red hoards and their passive/aggressive mouthings-off on any and all subjects.

I think I've been pretty fair in my points on this thread and gone against a lot of Liverpool fans' opinions on this matter, and I do think the club haven't dealt with the situation well at all, to be honest. But it's gotten to the point now where every single action is just another example of how awful Liverpool are, which is pretty annoying. I raised one thing that annoys me in return when somebody suggested that Everton are immune to these sorts of behaviour and now a lot of people are suddenly taking offence.

'Get one over on Liverpool'? Wouldn't you say that the enormous amount of time after Heysel it took your club and fans to acknowledge their actions and responsibility for that disaster was totally responsible for that type of point scoring?

You've reaped the whirlwind because of that.

You were on thin ice as it was. Trying to associate EFC with Heysel just broke through the ice lad and you've fallen through.

Remember this is a thread regarding your club's ridiculous behaviour regarding RACISM.

On which your club has no redeeming qualities. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I think a lot of your fans have reason to feel guilty in terms of their response to Heysel to be honest. A lot of them don't realise the irony of taking the high ground but at the same time using 39 dead to do so.

I had family at Heysel and at Hillsborough. I watched both events live on the TV. I saw LFC fans attack Juventus fans at Heysel and watched horrified as 39 of them died. I watched LFC fans pile into Hillsborough and again was horrified as 96 of them died. My family who were there had no doubts that the blame lay with the LFC fans for both events. We hear a great deal about justice for the 96 and nothing about justice for the 39, but their families just like the families on Merseyside suffered. Heysel however again seems to have been airbrushed out of the LFC collective memory. No blame may be attached to LFC fans, it was the fault of the police or the stadium. But why does it always happen to LFC. Everton had a wonderful friendly final just a week or so before. Just for one minute think about it. The day that LFC fans can say that some blame actually lays with themselves and stops pretending to always be victims of someone or another will be the day that LFC rejoins humanity. Dalgleish has been woeful in his non admission of any blame upon Suarez and brings no credit to the people of Merseyside, imho.......

I think some (not all) Everton fans are the ones associating themselves with Heysel by mentioning it every derby, not me.
