ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Interesting few paragraphs from Tony Barrett's Times article today re Suarez....the smoke and mirrors last time were, as we thought, just a cover for the fact that neither Spanish club were interested when he held the RS to ransom......

......After fighting off Arsenal’s £40,000,001 bid to sign Suárez last summer, Liverpool are acutely aware of the disruption that can be provoked by prolonged doubts about their star player and are determined to avoid a repeat of that situation, which culminated in Suárez effectively going on strike in an unsuccessful attempt to force a move.
There is a reluctant acceptance, though, that it would take a remarkable effort to retain Suárez against his will, particularly as his suitors are Barcelona, a club that he has held a lifelong ambition to play for, as Damien Comolli, Liverpool’s former director of football, confirmed yesterday.
“Speaking to Luis before, and during, the World Cup, he’s always said he is very happy at Liverpool,” Comolli said. “But during our time together at Anfield he told me that his dream is to play in Spain at one point in his career, especially at Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“His wife’s family live in Spain, he’s in Barcelona every time he gets a couple of days off and has a house there. I’ve always thought in my mind, and I told Kenny Dalglish at the time, that, if either of the big Spanish two came in and tried to get him, Liverpool would have a hard time to try and keep him.”............

Rumours are starting to float around that Henry and co. are considering getting Damien Comolli back on board as part of this transfer co-op they have going on over their. Seems they are worried about Brendan's increasing influence and have concerns over his judgement in spending the potential windfall from the sale of Suarez given his track record. Apparently they value the role Comolli played in scouting and bring Suarez in a few years ago, and also the work he put in into identifying Henderson.

He was always going as soon as Spain beckoned. The comical thing was the last contract he signed a few months ago and the Kopites actually thinking it meant something. They really are out to lunch.

Brent will wear it though. He basically accepted he'd have no control in order to get the job in the first place. If it's true they're drafting Comolli back into the club then that's booting into touch any notions he may have had regarding having 'earned' the right to dictate business at Anfield.

I really dont blame Henry for taking the cash out of that spendthrift's hands. He'll blow it on utter tripe like he has before.
