Which they've already spent

Yeah

But it seems weird that we're laughing at 65 Million like it's not a huge chunk of change, because it most definately is

When I first started watching football, I think Andy Cole became the world record largest signing at 7.7 Million. That's pretty much standard cost for a player now

If Liverpool sold a player for 65 Million even so much as 5 years ago, it'd be regarded as a massive coup for them

Maybe.... but the only reason for the overt mirth is that the 65m is nowhere near the 85m+ that was being bandied about by them and bragged about left right and centre. Even 75m..the ballpark figure media wise was regarded as cheap for a player of his undoubted ability however much we ridicule and detest the horror. No doubt they will try not to refer to this much reduced figure anywhere...the usual LFC ploy of "if we don't mention it...it didnt happen". Whereas if it were us, the realists that we are, we'd be up in arms wanting to know who at the club **cked it up/was in cahoots with BK... or at least accepted a lower fee and why.

They've sold a World Class talent who either scored or made half of their league goals last season and used the money to buy Weirdy Beardy, Lovren and the young lad from Benfica, who managed a paltry 5 goals in the pish Portugese league last season.

But 65 Million is still a lot of money for a football player though

If they've spent it on the wrong players, then yeah, that's funny. But the fee itself isn't cause for humour IMO

It's all about the context.

A year ago when he signed his new contract they were all saying that it'd take a World record fee to prise him away from Anfield, £100m was bandied about.

They've ended up with £65m, despite the best efforts of the RS's army of comical Ali's in the press trying to convince everyone it was £75m.

A group of Barca, Liverpool, Celtic and Ajax would be a cracking group I think. It would produce some good atmosphere if nothing else

I don't see that happening though, as I think the rankings match up correctly

That would be horrific, to follow on from Walken's post above every game would be filled with commentary platitudes like famous clubs / way of playing / the fans / unique atmosphere, and whats worse is they would get out of that group.
