ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

It really is this. The examples of it now are beyond the pale. People are idiots.

But were there really that many people getting offended, like? Outrage is willfully magnified out of proportion by media outlets to make a story. Who genuinely looked at that tweet and cursed humanity's ignorance with clenched fists to the sky?

I think the real reason the Yanks wanted Balotelli was to market LFC in the US amongst black people. Balotelli is probably the most marketable black footballer in the world and the Yanks thought he would be making the headlines. Well he certainly has done that.

Not at all.

They bought him because they thought he'd do well in the actual "playing football" element of football.

Hasn't worked out yet.

Twitter users en masse, as per.

Good question, but patently enough for the media outlets to get a whiff of it before it was taken down.

Another example of why footballers shouldn't have social media feeds that aren't managed.

With all the BS that goes on social media, perhaps it's time it was done away with ?
I don't understand why footballers use twitter and the like, aside from self promotion of their 'brand' which doesn't need to be done by them.

By posting actual opinion on everyday stuff they're opening themselves up for abuse from those who might take the opposite stance, and from their perspective what's to be gained from it?

There's a lot of evidence to suggest that social media doesn't make you happy anyway, let alone if you got dogs abuse on it daily. I'm happier since disabling Facebook and I didn't get people calling me a useless tit (well, not every day), I imagine they would be too.

Just seen the tweet.

Staggered that someone in such a high profile job can be so thick.

This is perfect. It's like Suarez all over again, except Balotelli won't get the same wide berth from their moron fans.

You're forgetting the old saying: "Opinions are like a-holes: everybody has one and they can't help desperately wanting to show it to everybody else."

I don't think it can be racist if the joke is told within your group but it is questionable if it isn't - it's pretty hard to accuse a black person of being racist if they resort to telling jokes about their own and to laugh off the stereotype by embracing it - seem to remember Spurs fans wanting to own the term "Yids" in order to reduce the effect of others calling them unpleasant names. You can't insult some one so well if they refuse to rise to the insult - like LGBT now tend to own the rather unpleasant term "Queer" which has, largely, disappeared from common use.

Of course this is just my POV and others might be offended if someone within their (ethnic) group took offence.

Lucky that you added that last sentence else I would have been well offended.
