Good question but what is the measure of Champions League quality? Are we talking about a player who can compete in the higher echelons?

Then clearly there is nobody bar possibly Sturridge, however I'd like to see him consistently without Suarez. There are still doubts over his him.

Or good enough to tread water and not be completely over shadowed? Still, there aren't many: Coutinho; Sterling; possibly Can.

Overall, they're clearly a squad littered with average to good Premiership players, yet you wouldn't get many Liverpool fans accepting that.

Those 1970s and 1980s tinted glasses that they all where every single day makes looking at mediocrity an almost impossible task.

yep, well i mean we get teams like genk competing the champions league so they have players competing in the CL, so people would use that as a barometer. but i wouldn't really, i'd say players good enough to play for the top 16 teams in europe. sturridge is a good player hence why he's played for 3 of the better teams in the league, but they keep letting him go because of his injury record.

coutinho got let go by a team who were 9th in Italy because he couldn't get in their team. vastly overrated - he's got stats on par with mirallas in the league i'd say - who's been injured for half of the league season.

Quality enough to get into a top 4 side, simple as. That's their main goal so it's not really relevant what sort of calibre of players Ajax or Galatasaray have in their sides.

You can get away with having a few below par players in the squad, but I don't see any players in their team that any of the current top four would be interested in having in their squads, never mind starting XI. Henderson looks like his level is about Stoke or West Ham, Sturridge is always hurt, Sterling can run fast and fall over pretty good but he is useless the moment a defender shows him outside. Which the PL seem to have learned well this year. Can seems pretty solid, as does Lucas, but would they displace a Matic, a Carrick, a Ramsey? Honestly for all the Coutinho hype he reminds me of Hatem ben Arfa, goes missing for long stretches of time, and pops up here and there with youtube-able highlights, but never someone you can depend on. Bit like are Kev tbh.

The only reason he's getting hyped up now is because that lot have this weird need to hero-worship someone, anyone, and with Sterling off form and refusing to sign he's the next best thing.

Henderson their captain and Coutinho their star man, they've really fallen a long distance since the days of Gerrard and Torres.

on the other hand, would love to see someone explain how countinho is on the POTY shortlist ahead of eriksen. baring in mind most of coutinho's best moments have come in the FA Cup. his stats used by BBC are "completed 10 through balls in 2015" and "16 shots on target from outside the box".

excuse me whilst i sh*t the bed, what stats they are! 10 nearly assists and 16 nearly goals, that's 26 goals right there if football was played without keepers!

eriksen = 10 goals, 4 assists with a large majority of those goals crackers/last min winners.
coutinho = 4 goals, 6 assists

and that's just the paper stats. gylfi siggurdson 6 goals and 10 assists as well i must add.

mirallas and chadli are two others who have better stats i reckon. even steven naismith's stats are close to coutinho's with 5 goals and 3 assists.

i've got to say, it is a shocking appointment for TOTY, never mind POTY & YPOTY.

in any case manu has 4 point bumber and thats enough i believe

United have Hull fighting for their lives away, Palace away, a (usually well drilled) WBA side and Arsenal. It's very possible that they only take five points from those fixtures. A draw today would have been enough to write the RS out of it.
