Flip...that long ago?

I thought Carragher came through around the same time as Gerrard.....i.e. after Owen :(

You'd be forgiven for thinking that... the years of losing (league-wise) have been unkind on Stevie's fod... they're etched into it, like the tree-rings of a felled Californian redwood... an ancient timeline of pain - each crease is steeped in suffering.

Tbf I think Couthino, Can Sterling and Ibe are counted in it the first two just turned 22. Sterling came from QPR and Ibe Wycombe.

They havnt produced one player organically from their academy locally for their first team bar Flannagan.

I find that article really disingenuous when you consider the players we have produced locally.

They're academy is gash.

as if anyone's surprised? every season we see some jarg table that puts liverpool top. this is just fr teams playing players U21 - they've just tried to word in the hope nobody will actually catch on to the truth.

ha, as if it's anything to do with losing. the ugly mutant has always had fod ridges like commander worf

I think there academy has actually slightly improved compared to how crap it used to be. Still a long way though I reckon from bringing through another Gerrard type player or a Carragher. I was talking about this to a colleague today and saying it's absolute criminal for clubs not to be producing local lads. Luckily I think we have a good crop coming through the next few years so we should see a few homegrown lads at least be given the chance.

tbf, if all the good local talent want to come to better renowned merseyside club - what can they do? got no option but to splurge millions at QPR etc . whilst we produce all the good youngsters for free.

Even their outlets of hope for a better future look bleak right now. It's music to my ears.

what did they expect? they bought him based on about 100 mins in the world cup. teams would have scouted benteke and lukaku and when he came on they were thinking who?

i've said it time and time again, he reminds me of sanogo, decent striker, but can't finish for love nor money - he should be a winger imo.

Most of their transfer acquisitions reek of 'Football Manager'. They bought Coates cos he got best young player at the Copa America award. And then there was Downing...

lovren , lallana, lambert. what did they play 1 good season in the prem? after lower league stuff/european footy. a season where southampton finished 8th not 3rd and they decided to just throw wods of cash at it. you sign players from teams who finish 8th when you've just finished 2nd and it's not going to improve you.

Origi made Tim howard look world class by shooting it straight at him 16 times.

This season while we were having a horrific season he was closed out of both games, failing to score a single goal by the likes of Tony Hibbert and Sylvain Distin, whose drop off this season has meant that the Paraguayan druglord Antolin Alcaraz has been preferred as a reserve defender over him.

Forgive me for not anointing him Liverpool's saviour

It gets you right here ,that. I feel the pain.

This is spot on. They have bought in lots of good young players, for a handsome cost. They haven't produced anyone in about 10-12 years though, during which time we have brought through Osman, Hibbert, Anichebe, Rooney, Rodwell and Barkley. Flannagan could go either way and is a similar level to a James Vaughan.

It is good to see them playing young players though, it's also nice to see us 4th on the list. The worry for them is that when these young players get a bit older they want to leave (like Sterling). Arsenal faced the same problem.
