ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

My favourite bit of the article is the bit in bold - Rodgers is only responsible for the signings that work out it seems...

The truth is that the path Liverpool have to tread is not an easy one to negotiate. They are searching for something they may never be able to find, which is why their assault on the title 16 months ago swept so many of us away on a tide of nostalgia and optimism.

Rodgers proved himself that season. He graduated as a leading manager. He demonstrated his talent. He showed he has the ability to manage a team and take it to the top. He had a philosophy and he implemented it.

The intervening months have not been easy. Liverpool were driven on that season by the brilliance of Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling and the fading greatness of Steven Gerrard. Three of those four players have left the club. The fourth has barely played since May 2014.

Liverpool’s attempts to restock the team have not yet been successful. Mario Balotelli was a spectacular bust. Dejan Lovren has not hit the ground running. He has hit the ground falling. Adam Lallana has only shown fleeting glimpses of his class. Then again, a Rodgers signing, Philippe Coutinho, is fast emerging as the club’s best player.

The reality is that Liverpool cannot climb back to the top by outspending their rivals. They cannot win by might. They have to win by stealth. They have to win by having a better manager and a better strategy. They already have a fine manager and the best strategy is to stick with him.

To adapt Mourinho, Brendan Rodgers is a fantastic manager when he is not winning matches and he is a fantastic manager when he is. Rodgers has already proved he has what it takes. Now he just needs to be left alone to prove it again.

Oliver Holt obviously thinks hes back as football head honcho of The Melwood Mirror churning that out. Rodgers had the biggest sticking plaster in the world to cover his inadequacies in Suarez. He chanted the mantra enough about his absence being pivotal to their initial descent...probably with one of his sideways glances to his inability to mould a costly pic n mix squad into a C/League challenging team without him. His dull hand is refreshed only by Coutinho, the prospect of Benteke and the return of the Spire Shareholders dividend booster, Sturridge.

Holt says "the best strategy is to stick with" their "fine manager". I would have thought the more salient point would have been to ask if the manager actually had one ?

The growing army of disgruntled Kopites are like a caged tiger waiting to pounce if they do rubbish against Norwich today.
Thinking purely for the long term benefits, I'd like those lot to beat Norwich today or at least draw. Not a convincing result, but a scrappy win.

It'll appease the growing mob of anti-Rodgers fans enough so that he survives the weekend, and further fuel his ego that he's the 'chosen one'.

In reality though, it'll just add time to his mockery of a tenure, which will further increase the hilarious damage he is doing to their beloved club.

On the other hand, if they're beaten today and the result is another vacant display by his (sorry the committees) purchases, he'll be soon off.

Just need to not play the occasion and we can take these

Martinez has learned how to combat Rodgers now
Don't be bloody stupid saying ambitious and enthusiastic things like that, as you know what will happen! It's very dangerous talk!

Yes we're playing relatively well at the moment and they're playing poorly, but when we ever expect or should win, it all goes to pot.

I think there should be a total and draconian ban regards to talking about the derby!

If they get beat today he's gone and they've got a new manager in time for the derby, I'll allow them 3 today to keep him in a job.
