Steven Gerrard Forgets Existence of Manchester United
Gerrard is launching a book called My Liverpool Story which will presumably be his Liverpool story. And, like with Rooney, the best bits and gaffs will be picked out as soon as possible. And this may be the best bit for opposition fans.
The Liverpool captain is often teased about not having a Premier League title, despite the fact he's won a few trophies, and he feels this is down to the money men who have come into football. ESPN has the extract and it reads:
'It is no good us worrying about the power of Chelsea and Manchester City, but there is no two ways about it, if there was no Roman Abramovich (Chelsea owner) or the guy (Sheikh Mansour) who bought Manchester City I'd have two or three league titles sitting here now.'
So, that's no doubt about having two or three league titles. Let's take a look at that Steven...
Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and since then Liverpool have finished 4th, 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 7th, 6th and 8th. More importantly to this, Liverpool have not finished above Manchester United in that time, making Sir Alex Ferguson's club a bigger reason for Gerrard's lack of a league title than any billionaire. Indeed, they've only finished above Arsenal three times, perhaps he forgot United existed.
To be fair, Liverpool did finish above Manchester United in 2002 but Arsenal won the league that year so they scuppered it for Gerrard, without the help of a billionaire.
Of course, there's always the possibility that Steven Gerrard was looking more deeply and thinking about player recruitment, Champions League revenue, and other factors but then if Arthur was Martha...
