ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

another RAWK legend comment regarding us:

"They have absolutely no chance of fourth. They won't finish above either Spurs or Arsenal and I would expect us to finish above them too."

so sat in 4th and 5 points above them 18 games gone and we have no chance of finishing 4th? hahaha deluded [Poor language removed]

I wouldn't say "absolutely no chance", but I agree with everything else, they will strengthen in January more than anyone else.

I'd love us to stay there but it's unlikely.

This

They are only 4 points behind us now, They will buy at least 3-4 players in Jan whilst we are running on bare bones atm

Our History is absolutely littered with occasions were we have had them on the ropes, only for them to rise like the dead with a sucker punch to our gonads I'm afraid!!!However one day, just one day,the Royal Blue gods may smile and goodness will prevail over evil!!

Some on here are lucky enough to have the innocence of youth on their side. Maybe us wisened oldies should put up a dedicated thread warning of the many reasons why chickens should never ever be counted. If we were 10 points clear of them with one game to go, I still wouldn't be surprised if they finished above us.

This comment appeared many, many times last season.

Some quotes from the end of Novemberish.

Could easily lose the next 3/4 and then be midtable again

Only see 1, and at a stretch, 2 wins for them in 8 of those matches.

This was from the Arsenal match to the Chelsea match - unbeaten with two wins already.

Would love Arsenal to give these a proper good 4 or 5 goal hiding tonight I've got a feeling they will an all.

Only 4 points behind the blues now. Can we go above them before the New Year?

Won 1 of the last 9 league games, with some difficult games still to come before January, not that difficult for us to take over by then

What shouldn't be overlooked is that we have played 10 away with 8 at home with the affables having played 10 at home and 8 away.

We now have a far easier set of fixtures than them. If we're not at least 8 points ahead by January i'll eat my hat.

Yes they will waste more money in January on a few duds. One win and the deluded optimism comes to the fore again, only to be shattered in the next game. They're a mid-table side who will not finish above us.

all depends on how sturridge fits in, on paper it should as he has pace to beat the last man and can finish i.e. 2 things suarez doesent have, but people thought carroll and suarez was the perfect partnership on paper aswell. guess we will find out which it is.
as for ince bringing in a championship player is always a risk despite their stats.

Sturridge can finish?

26 goals in something like 100 games would suggest otherwise

i don't think sturridge is the player that will propel them to top 4. he'll get 7/8 at the absolute maximum, he's a 1/5 player. we finished above them last season and have a better squad - there's is arguabley worse now. Wins against a shody fulham, reading, southampton and norwich as their season highlights is not really concerning for me.

i know there are more poor teams than good teams in the league but they can't beat any of the teams higher than them

how many starts and how many times was he played out wide.
even when torres was off form he still wasnt given a chance. went to bolton and looked clinical when he was there.

cant really say he has ever been given a real chance in the first team playing up front. as i said might work might not

If you beat the better teams that doesent mean you should easily beat the lower teams, we have struggled to get wins against the lesser sides despite beating the decent sides. what counts is the points total

When he was given a run at Bolton & Chelsea, his strike rate is not that bad, 1 in 3 ish, but the interesting thing is Chelsea letting him go to club they obviously do not see as a rival!

then you have to look at who the chelsea manager is and the possible replacement for sturridge i.e. falcao
