Most houses don't have true straight lines to cut into.
Infact I did a job were caulk was used ,so it was curved.
Always cut in to the lighter colour,use frog tape not masking if you must.
Without physically showing you ...get the frog tape on well over the cutting line then use that straight edge and blade,not a stanley (to wide)a snap off ,to get a perfect straight edge.
Then cut in.

BTW, if you must use masking tape then pay the bit extra and buy Frogtape. Its the bollox.

Nah, gaffer tape for holding body parts together. Mitre glue if it's a really bad one
