EFC - playing football the right way

i don't think it deserved to be a red. He didnt have the ball under control, he was going diagonally away from goal and there was another defender. I wouldn't have complained if he walked, but if it was the other way around, I would have been a bit p1ssed if it was red.

Agree with the overall philosophy of the statement though

I think it was a red, Victor would have had a clear run on goal, but not gonna dwell on it too much.

jelavic and heits are the only snidey type players we got at the moment i reckon. Like someone said above, i think it's needed in a way, you cant be getting up and shaking everyones hand everytime you get brought down in the box. It was nice to see Harper do similar against us though for Vic
Great point about Harper

I do dislike the feeling that things "evened out" with the hand ball from Monday. We were never gonna lose y'day. Those calls cost us 2 points on Monday.

Having said that I want to be an honest side. No snides please.

I believe that Moyes has a policy whereby he punishes players that do not act in a sportsmanlike manner. That's why you don't see our players diving around and trying to get others sent off. I think it is refreshing to see a manager seek to play the game the way that it ought to be played. Would hate to have to support cheats and liars like Suarez et al

i just remember jelavic going down a bit too easily in one of his 1st game and he kopped a but of abuse, thats the kind of fans we are and how it should be. yes it's about winning, but its a sport. i dont see how RS fans can sing the praises and make chants about blatant cheats like suarez and stevie *tell the ref that was a red card* gerrard, it just wouldn't be an evertonians nature.

I'd rather lose honestly than win dirty, all day long. I know a lot of people completely disagree, but never mind.

Some things will always be more important than the numbers the scoreboards show, for me.

is right. you win dishonestly = you didnt win, you cheated.............. the history books will say "winner" but its a hollow victory in my book

I remember the same when Yakubu went down far too easily, got a bit of abuse from most in the Glwadys St. When a kopite said that I would love a 'cheat' at Everton told him that example and he soon shut up.

I would add Pienaar as one of the more snide players but like Arteta he just knows how to get the contact, I don't have a problem with players doing that and going down (as long as there is enough contact to go down). You could say that Suarez Penalty at Goodison was like that and after seeing it on TV you can't complain.

If I remember correctly, a few years ago they trialled a system whereby if you argue with the ref, the ball goes 10M nearer your goal. I think that would certainly stop a lot of the crap refs get. It works in Australian Rules Football, but the penalty is 50M. Funnily enough, you very very rarely see players arguing with the ref.
And as mentioned before - Steve Harper last week was a perect example of sportsmanship - really couldn't imagine Suarez or Stevie Starfish doing that.....

Agree with the Honesty and winning by playing fairly.... But I'd like Moist to get one piece of silverware and I don't care how we give it to him.

There will always be two camps - those who admire and loved JH for his attitude (subtle shoulder barge) towards Cashley Cole in the Penalty shoot out vs Chelski and those who want this to be a gentleman's game without losing the competitive spirit and the contact aspects of football. I lean towards wanting football to learn from Rugby where players give all for 90mins with no quarter given, kicking bells out of each other but with respect for the Refs decisions and a real respect for each other after the game. There is a stack load of money in Rugby since it became professional (compared to the "amateur" days) so money is not the clear answer to the differences. Is this an unreasonable expectation?
