At 3-1 The mate asked me if I wanted to walk round the pitch. we walked down to the front of the Street end and he told the steward that I felt dizzy and sick. The steward sent us to the sick bay at the right hand corner of the park end. Missed latchford's goal but it was a buzz.
Think we got knocked out in the next round
Funny under Lee, had two really good seasons in the league where we got knocked out of the cup early on followed by two crap seasons in the league with good cup runs.

Yes I R ember him playing as a centre forward as you say back to goal he led the line well one season banged a lot of goals in for us alas never sustained it!He was a good player Eastoe,played with his back to goal,dare I say it like a lesser version of Dogleash?

The crowd went mad with boos when he appeared on the pitch. He laughingly covered his ears and played up to it which broke the tension a little. We were still on his back the whole game though. He loved giving us that pen just so he could say "see I am not against you really". Gob @£&@& of the highest order. Obsessed with himself and being centre of attention.
Cheers mate I only went to a few games that season. Me dad must have thought this 1 might be a bit sweary.your spot on about Thomas and his ego . didn't he blow for the final whistle a second before the ball crossed the line in a world cup match ?

These posts bring it all flooding back ,wasnt it really misty that day sort of light fog.When you look back now you realise what a good side that was how it never won a trophy Ill never know and the much maligned manager Gordon Lee was probably a far better manager than we thought at the time.
I have just finished a book called "looking for the Toffees" written by a blue who grew up in that era where he talks to a lot of the players in a where are they now sort of theme.I will pass the book on to anybody who wants it just PM with name and address I dont want nothing for it.

Ahh the blues line up of my youth. My first heroes. Not long before my family left Liverpool and this would have been one of my last games for quite a while. Recognise a couple of those Villa players that caused me my first tears as a young blue in the league cup final 12 months earlier Carradus / Mortimer. Never forget those names.
