Looking for some advice on getting back into a little bit of mixing after hanging up the headphones for the best part of two decades.
First got started aged 17 when I'd saved up to buy my first set of decks - a cracking used pair of 1210s. Had to learn to beat match with my parents vinyl collection as I couldn't afford my own after bankrupting myself to get the decks...Billie Jean into Night Fever for a month lol I struggled to build a record collection mostly due to the cost of vinyl and living absolutely miles away from the nearest record shop.
I eventually made the move into the digital music revolution, seeing how increasingly easy it was to acquire MP3s via various sources of varying legality. I ditched the Technics and bought some entry level but seemingly good quality Pioneer CDJ100s and Pioneer mixer (can't remember which one - two channel with effects). I had a great time using them, built a huge library of everything House/Techno/Trance, always having parties with them out. I even supported a couple of working DJs I was mates with to play some cheesy stuff at some bar gigs a few times to my undeniable fame.
Anyway, as is life, things got in the way. I stopped and never looked back...I needed all of that time I spent mixing and looking for new tunes to be used for other things.
I recently stumbled across someone selling a Pioneer DDJ-1000 controller. I looked into it, and I'm absolutely astonished at the amount of functionality that can be had now for a lot less than I paid for my Technics 20 years ago. 4 Channels, Touch mechanical jog wheel, Auto loop, sampling, endless effects..... The Rekordbox box app with a Beatport Link subscription looks to be a world apart in terms of features to play with, ease of use, and access to music to what I've had before.
I get the feeling that the crowd in this thread are purist vinyl types which I do have a lot of admiration for, but for someone who just wants to mess around in their man cave, and pretend he's 17 again, is something like a pioneer controller and rekordbox not as brilliant as it seems? Can anyone offer any alternative advice for an affordable way to get back into a little bit of home DJing from my comfy armchair?
Cheers
